Hubby is 30, what to buy???

Hi all,
Well title says it all really, my hubby is thirty in December! Seems really old to me, as when I met him he was 21!
Anyway I'm thinking if surprising him with a city break, dates would have to be 19th of October week, although I know it's half term I only work term time so HAS to be.
Anyone got any advice or good places to search for a cheap holiday? B&b would be nice if possible or even half board but no all inclusive as I'd want to explore the city (wherever we go!) don't mind whether its in the uk or not. Would love somewhere like Rome but the prices are a BIT to high, also somewhere where there's things to do. We aren't hotel sitters and like to do things!!
Any help would be greatly appreciated
No nasty comments pls

To the mods, I'm not totally sure it should be in this section of the forum?? Sorry if it is!

Thanks in advance

A birthday cake with 30 candles on it:rotfl:
  • What airports are local to you? And do you have a budget for the trip, think about cost of food, drinks etc too.
  • Keep an eye on trazelzoo and groupon nearer the time.
We went to Venice last October and is fab! Marrakech is a good one too if you're a little more adventurous!
  • I took my OH to estonia for a long weekend for his 30th, it was beautiful and very romantic in the winter :)

    Otherwise I second Marrakesh!

Why can't you go away in the Christmas Hols? A wintry city break somewhere in Northern Europe could be very romantic. Log fires, christmas trees etc.

    Bruges!

My oh and I looked at going away in October last year and we could get flights, a 4 star hotel and transfers for £450 ish on Expedia - 3 nights.

Worked out same as a break in the UK. We didn't go in the end but I've been before and it's beautiful (and very romantic).

If he's a proper '80s kid and loves Lego, a friend went over to the Lego factory etc in Demark. He loved it and that was a good deal too.

    Barcelona. Dublin. Prague.

Or check out Ryanair/Easyjet websites for where they fly to from your local airport.

Beware destination airports with Ryanair as sometimes they don't fly to the nearest airport.

Dubrovnik it's a beautiful city, nice and compact and was not affected by the Balkan Conflict
It's taken me years of experience to get this cynical
  • I think Prague would be a good one. I'm 28 (and gutted you think 30 is old lol!) and I'd love to go as it looks really beautiful and romantic and a guy I know who is 31 went with his friends and loved it too so you would probably both like it.

    Depends what you're in to
We had a lovely break in Prague, a very nice historical city, lots to go and see. we stayed on the outskirts of the city and the tube is very good for getting into the centre quickly. Also is wasn't an expensive place to be once you were there.

I've got a long weekend planned in the lake district in October, looking forward to some lovely walks, or if weather scraps that, cosying up in front of a log fire! Great for a relaxing break.

New York if you really want to push the boat out, so much to do there. Theatre, shopping, sightseeing..... More expensive though, but if you keep your eye out for deals you can save.

If it was me, I'd love a trip on the eurostar to Paris.

Edited to say keep a look out on Travel Zoo, Mighty Deals, KGB etc for packages
 Mini me due March 2014
