Stairlift experiences

I understand that. I didn't mean she should have - I meant it was worth more than the company gave her.
I expect they play on the fact that people are grieving and just want the stairlift out of the way when they make these low offers.
I'm sure they do. They must make a fortune. They played on the fact Dad's stairs were a bit unusually shaped, with kind of a double mini landing. So the stairlift that had been top of the range a short time earlier became a useless, nobody-wants-them-love piece of equipment.
Dad had probably used it less than half a dozen times.:(0 -
I've recently had a stairlift fitted for my Mum. The company were great as they sell all different makes of stairlift so could tell us the best one for her. I rang on the sunday evening and someone answered the phone, they surveyed the next day and the stairlift was in within 2 days. Great price too. They've got a website, look them up Spam~Stairlifts, I can't put the web address as Im a new on here. I would highly recommend them though. Took the pain out of choosing.

The problem with buying a stairlift on ebay is that you don't know what you're getting. You have no warranty. I know by using a small reputable company I felt safe about my Mum going up and down the stairs as it was fitted correctly and wouldn't conk out.
Spam~Stairlifts sell reconditioned ones too. They buy too. As I said before they were great.

Trouble is I'm not spamming. My Mum's 82 and wanted to stay in her own home rather than go into a nursing home, making that decision was one of the hardest things my siblings and I had to do and NO-ONE was around to give us advice.
Until you've been through it you have no idea. These things cost a lot and it's easy to be ripped off or get the wrong product. One company wouldn't leave us alone after they'd been.
I wouldn't regard recommending a company is spamming, whatever that is (sorry I'm 48 and not very computer literate, I guess from your comments that spamming is advertising!)0 -

We get dozens per week, every week claiming the same thing, they're just salesmen flogging warez I don't believe you are anything but a salesperson. Why else promote a specific company ?
Another brand new poster is offering help to anyone on the condition they go off the board and away from the safety and scrutiny the board we users, and its moderators offer. Its entirely possible that 'spamspam' is a nice genuine person - its equally possible he is just here touting for business and money by getting people into private messaging, I don't know, you don't know, no one knows.
NOTE: There are many vulnerable people on this board who might just be enticed off forum and out of view to the dark murky unseen and unsafe world of Private Messaging in response to an invitation from a complete stranger. Don't do this, protect yourself by posting openly in the forum - if in doubt ask for a moderator or email the MSE team for advice before you go to private messaging and especially before you hand over any private details.
Tracy Smith - Advert here by 'Tracy' for Stannah renting program here the company 'Shill' is running a paid for infomercial. Leodis the company she promotes in this thread as expected sell the Stannah brand. Surprise surprise !Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. Sshe lives in an end terrace house, with a dog leg staircase starting from the hall. right next to the front door.
I'd appreciate any experiences or advice that forumites may have, on the likely cost, feasibility and useability of these devices. She was in hospital recently to have a pacemaker fitted and they gave us a list of local suppliers, but I'd prefer to have at least some background knowledge before asking anyone to quote.
Hi, my advise would be to stay local and not be tempted by one of the national stairlift companies, someone has to pay for all that advertising and its going to be YOU. Having been in the industry for 25 years its fair to say most of the major make are very reliable.0 -
As has been said you can get reconditioned stairlifts but you are very unlikely to be able to get one with a track that fits your curved stairs which means that you will probably find it expensive.
You say that the stairs have a dogleg turn at the bottom. Is there any scope to straighten the stairs at the bottom, I did this in my grandmothers house to make it easier for her to climb but the stairlift fitter pointed out that doing that had made the stairlift cost a third of the price.
Another thought. You said its a terrace house. Sometimes people in nearby properties die or go into a home and need to remove the stairlift. If you know of any likely properties where this applies, the track could be the same length/angle/turn as yours.0 -

Have several quotes, especially from the obvious. They may seem pricey but you get what you pay for and there are a number of fly by nights in the industry
Check whether they have a repair/ call out service as some will sell you a lift and never want to see you again.
Curved stairs are more expensive as the rails are made for the stairs. Non manufacturers will "cut & shut" a curved rail. Would anybody buy a "cut & shut" car?
Don't be afraid to tell a surveyor/ salesman to leave if they are persistent. The right companies will not pressure sell.
DO NOT fall for the "we've got one that a customer ordered but didn't take, and you can have it for a special price today" Tell em to get out straight away if they come out with that baloney0
