What car do I buy to replace mini?

If you have spent the time and money modifying the car to suit you, I can't help thinking the best car for you is the one you are sitting in. MINIs have their faults but you have cured some of them and need to hold some cash back in case their other foibles pop up. If you want a disappointing money pit with cliff edge depreciation, go for the Citroen.0

Not sure of your budget - but what about the Honda CRZ?0

Alfa Romeo Mito or Giulietta lots of character and very reliable diesel engines as they have the Fiat JTDs. Mito is Mini sized but with a bigger boot and the Giulietta is Golf/A3 sized.
Alfa Romeos arent as unreliable as they used to be Ive had my Mito 3 years and had no mechanical problems.
This imo if you want character.0 -

150,000 miles in a MINI is a lot longer than i'd like to be keeping one. You're precariously close to gearbox failure, steering rack failure, turbo failure, injector failure, pump failure
Other than age old stereotypes and hearsay, what are you basing your assertion that the DS3 would be a 'disappointing money pit' on?0 -

I wouldnt mind a gold size car but they are just boring!
Im looking at the Citroen DS3 but its only 90bhp and my mini is 150bhp for the same size engine (1.6) so that worries me a bit, plus the fact that its French!
You don't like them which is fair enough but they are bigger inside than the Mini so please don't discount them on size basis alone.0 -
Paul, the simple fact is that the DS3s are now being offered out to the likes of me by the main dealers because they cant balance the books with what they get from BCA/Intercity/Central with straight looking, young, low milers that have the beginnings of their many inherent and low build quality faults. Badly designed, cheaply thrown together pieces of junk that no one in the trade would try to make a wage from.0

and in fact it was the new 500L that I was recommending which is bigger than the Mini inside and out and actually looks quite different to the 500! It was the immediate dismissal to this and other suggestions that led me to my conclusion, that OP doesn't actually want to consider anything other than a Mini.0 -
The DS3 is a funky and fun car. Only slightly bigger than the Mini, got more boot space though. There's always the DS4, but it's a bit ugly IMO and isn't as good to drive.
Have a look at the Citroen DS3, if you buy from new you can customise the roof, and colours and wing mirrors if you want. Very snazzy car.0
