Advice on size of TV

We've never felt we wanted a larger one than what we settled on but we're not film watchers - perhaps that makes a difference?
May just be that you have the right size for your space. Both sets of the parents have quite large living rooms, where you're sat quite far from the screen...a bigger screen would just be more comfortable to look at...it's horrible kinda squinting into the distance trying to focus on what's on screen.
Like I said, though, this long-term comfort is often overlooked in the short term when you just sit there and go "OMGz! there's a MASSIVE TV! Just there! Look! OMG! It's huge!" - it can be really quite jarring introducing something like that (a massive black box) to your living room (where you spend a lot of time)...0 -
Our lounge is 11.5 feet by 16 feet, we watch a 43 inch plasma across the 11.5 feet width and find it a very good size. What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0

We had some cardboard templates , 37 , 38 , 40 ,42 , 55 etc etc.
We took turns at standing at the stand with large sheets of cardboard to see which looked best
We ended with a 42 , all this !!!!!!!! about living room size is daft , its what you feel comfortable with , despite some of the comments , bigger isn't always the best option ..0 -

Err..it's not massively daft, really.
A TV, really, only has one purpose - to show you pictures.
If the picture's
a) really small, because you're sat fat away
b) really rubbish, because you're sat too close
- there's really no point in having the thing at all.0 -
40" TV... yay!
in a corner... oh dear.
So glad both me and my GF are tech types so there's always agreement on this sort of thing... nice plasma in the exact centre of the wall..0 -

Which is fine if there's just two of you, sitting perpendicular to the wall.
In a smaller living room, it's a bit tricky to get a family of four or five sitting in a row opposite the TV. In that case, the corner is a workable compromise. What goes around - comes around0 -
My point was that 40" is getting into home cinema territory rather, than gathering the family around the TV to watch Corrie. Putting the TV in a corner basically ruins that as the sound will never be right.
May as well go for a cheaper TV. Failing that make the kids use beanbags0 -
