HUGGIES - Bulk buy or switch to new brand?

Options
Hello,

As you have probably heard Huggies are going to stop selling in the UK sometime this spring. I've got a couple of big boxes but now I'm facing the decision of do I stock up on Huggies, or switch to another brand?

My daughter is 14 months at the moment and to be honest I don't think I've got the money or space to buy enough Huggies to get us through to the potty training stage, but I am keeping my eye out for Huggies on offer anywhere. Just had a message from Tesco Baby Club to say they have 1/3 off the economy packs, but as I usually buy the big boxes rather than packs that discount doesn't actually save me any money. So far the cheapest I have found is a local wholesaler who does the GIGA boxes (approx 148 / 1mths supply) for around £20.

I have recently tried Cheeky Bots (half price in Tesco £15 for 1mths supply) but wasn't impressed with the quality. Might end up going back to Pampers at this rate but I'm guessing their prices will go up when they loose their main competitor.

What are all of the other Huggies mummies and daddies planning on doing???

Why not try the kiddicare just 4 bums. I think they do monthly orders too.

We use reusables and they're handy enough but may not be the cheapest option to begin with but they do resell very well x

I know every baby is different but we have found the the supermarket own brand nappies are better than huggies, have you tried tesco, Aldi, asda they really are all the same apart from a different pattern on the waistband and work out a lot cheaper
  • If you have a Lidl near you try their nappies. I used Huggies at the start with my son but then changed to Lidl and find them fantastic. Way better than Huggies or Pampers.
  • yikes, I didn't know this!! We used cloth nappies with DS2 but DD just didn't get on with them, she's also 14 months old so still a wee (ha get it?) way to go until pott training, Morrison's own are okay but may try the Lidl ones thankyou shoppergal

My husband did the maths on the Tesco cheeky bots ones - worked out for the spend you'd get 4 less nappies in the size we use than if you bought their normal own range with the 2 for £10 special offer ones... and the packs are smaller than the Kiddicare ones as well. We jump between Tesco own, Asda own occasionally and mainly using the Kiddicare ones - but the local Kiddicare is like 10 mins away so we never have to pay delivery which puts the cost up a bit.

I think it's only the nappy Huggies which are going though - so you don't need to stock up right to potty training if you went that way - they'll still be doing the pull up style ones I believe.

I can't stand Pampers (buy them when desperate and used them when she was tiny for their prem size) - they smell funny and I hate the fact they've got designs plastered all over them - the Team GB ones were a ridiculous concept... show your support for Team GB by pooing in a Union Jack nappy?! (that costs twice as much as the others anyway)

I luckily don't use Huggies, but if I did I would try other brands now. It might be a tad silly to try and stock up as you will probably need a lot of packs!

It is worth trying supermarket brands, Asda's little angels and Aldi have been good for us so far, but we have tried many brands for both sons. I know each baby is a different shape and size, so some work for one but not for another.

  • I stocked up on nappies previously and they went crispy and hard while in storage. I used lidl ones after I gave up on pampers (rash) and they were great.
  • The first year I always bought Huggies or pampers for my son. I found these seemed comfortable on him but he often leaked out of them. My friend recommended asdas own brand and i never looked back. These are the best nappies by far in my opinion and they always had deals on them.

Aldi's Mamia are the best ones I've used so far. We're currently in asda little angels ones as I ran out and couldn't get to an aldi through the snow, and they are working just as well, containing everything that's been thrown at them so far. The only thing is the morning one (so very wet) does tend to smell a bit funny - we don't get that with aldi ones. I'll probably go back to the aldi ones once the asda ones run out.
  • I wouldn't dream of using anything other than Huggies Natural Fit - love these nappies and they are the only ones I have found that doesn't give DS nappy-rash. I will be stocking up!
