Emirates Flight Upgrades at Dublin Airport?

Hi all - I have a query regarding checking in for a long haul flight and possible upgrades in seating class.

Im flying from Dublin to Bangkok via Dubai with Emirates for a holiday with the missus and we have everything booked and paid for already.

My question is what is the best way to go about getting a seat upgrade for any part of the travel? I've heard friends saying to check in late so if economy is full they will bump you up. Others say check in very early as they will know flight numbers due to online check-in's in advance so will upgrade anyone who 'looks the part of a business traveler'. Is this true?

I know this is a money saving forum but I honestly don’t mind paying towards an upgrade (maybe a few hundred euro) but not the 6k for normal priced business class seats. Maybe I should get to the airport early and go to the Emirates Tickets/Sales counter and offer to pay towards an upgrade - is this even possible to do?

If anyone can help or has advice on this I'd love to hear it.

Thanks,
IAHO

There was a thread a while back asking this very question and busting myths along the way.

    Paying for it

if you are a VERY FF with the airline you may get upgraded-or you may not

Total rubbish. See answer to Q.2

Yes -BUT it may be as expensive as doing it on-line before hand.

Best way to get a good shot at being upgraded is:-

    a) Being the Captains significant other (or lover:o )

    b) Being a close friend of the crew (or their Mother )

    Have a good flight ;)

What status do you have with Emirates Skywards?

If the flight is oversold in economy you may find they may offer paid upgrades in advance to their frequent flyers

there is a thread here that has some charges
Although they don't have DUB, someone was offered GLA-DXB for $1,000 then DXB-BKK for $500 - that will be one person one way

Join Skywards and hope, but don't expect anything.

Their economy product is very good.
  • Thanks all. Im a blue skywards member if that's any use? Apart from that I think I'll take my chances at the airport sales desk to see how I get on. Cheers

Unless you've got status with Emirates, the chances of a free upgrade are extremely remote. They may upgrade people if they're overbooked but they will almost certainly pick statusholders ahead of non-statusholders.

If Business Class isn't full, you may be offerered a cheap upgrade a few days b4 u fly. Check your emails.
I got upgraded Trivandrum to Dubai for £75!! We were offered the Dubai to Glasgow leg for £260 declined that one, although it was still a bargain.
