Changing American Airlines Flights

Hi all,

Does anyone have any experience of changing the dates of non-refundable American airlines flights? I have just been told that the interviews for a job I applied for, are during our planned trip to the US so I need to reschedule the trip for a later date.

I know we will probably have to pay a fee plus the difference in cost of flights, but I can only find the fees charged for flights booked in the US. Does anyone know how much AA UK charge as a 'change' fee and is it per person per ticket or per booking?

I'm going to call them when I get home but I'm trying to roughly add up costs now so any info would be really helpful.

Thanks

This will depend on the exact fare type you booked and who you booked it through. The conditions should have been spelled out in your booking confirmation.

If you booked through an agent you'll probably have to go via them and they'll be able to tell you the charges.

    Thanks

I checked the confirmation and it says that you have to call a 5p a minute line to discuss it with an operator.

The flights were booked directly with AA online.

Can you not try to do a dummy-change online to get a quote?

It will only allow cancellation online :(

In that case, give them a call. 5p a minute is hardly a fortune.

Just to report back. I'm not sure where the call centre is located but its virtually impossible to understand the operators due to a feedback delay on the line and the 3 operators we tried after hanging up and re-dialling having really strong accents.

They couldn't deal with any query that fell outside of the flow-chart Q&A on their screen. So we have decided to go to the airport AA desk to sort it out. We could do without the expense but it was impossible to get any clarification over the phone.

They used to have a call centre based in Dublin and past experiences of dealing with them was great but this was pretty awful customer service.

Post on the AA board on Flyertalk. They will either be able to give you an answer as to whether you can change the flight, or give you a number for someone that can.

I used to find you would get a different AA call centre depending on what time you called. Not sure if it has changed but they used to switch calls between various offices to allow for 24/7 contact. Call very early and it would be India, late at night the US and in the UK daytime, UK, Dublin or I think Spain.
