Broadband speeds, who cares?

Like the thread title says, do you actually care too much about your broadband speed and what benefits if any do you get from massively increasing it?
I've always been on 2mb and haven't really needed to increase the speed. Say for example you are on 10Mb and whichever company you are with says theyt will increase it to 20mb for the same price, should you really be wowwwwed by that and if so why? What is commonly done on 20mb broadband that can't be done on 10mb?
Also, if your ISP restricts you to a certain monthly download limit, then surely having a faster broadband connection just increases the likelihood you will hit your download limit faster. So what's the point?

Yeah sure, but would you really notice any difference if say moneysavingexpert.com loaded up in 0.01 seconds as opposed to 0.001 seconds?Instigated terrorism the road to dictatorship.0 -

im on 10 MB, going up to 20 MB with free upgrade this month
whislt im living at home, i like the top speed possible.
however when i move out i dont think that it will be so important.. the internet will be more a means of communication rather than just general arsing around0 -
The speed is only really an issue if you download films/music really. The "Bloodlust" Clique - Morally equal to all. Member 20

Yeah, the kind of thing i was getting at was for example, if you have a download limit then you'll just use your limit up well before the month is over by downloading films and music in superfast time right?
I started this thread after a conversation i had with my friend a few days ago, he was saying how he'll be surfing at 10mb, then i asked him what difference that would make to his surfing life bearing in mind he prefers to watch films on dvd etc. etc. and he said "actually, not a lot".
So when most of these companies are offering massive increases in broadband sizes as an incentive, for a lot of people it's pretty pointless.
Even yahoo pool used to work okay on 56k dial up most times, haha.
This scenario is similar to my digital TV service, i have XL package yet only watch about 10 channels.Instigated terrorism the road to dictatorship.0
