I opened one of these accounts when they did the offer last year and it is still open - I just rang Tescos and asked them if I closed the account and opened a new one would I get the 1000 points this year - they said yes I would, so I suggested they might like to give me the 1000 points anyway and save themselves a lot of trouble - the guy I spoke to checked, confirmed that I would get my 1000 points by closing and reopening the account, but said that they could not just give me the points. I closed my account with him and he suggested leaving it until I get the cheque for the interest due on the account and then re-open it - so thats another £40 of Tesco deals for doing a bit of paperwork - suits me!

hubbie and I opened one each last year and both got points surely if you both have a tescos clubcard it's a bit mean to stop one of you getting the points isn't it? Have they changed the terms and conditions?

I'll just go rewrite that cheque:T

Just a word of warning not to leave it too late, I missed out last year as I tried to open the account at short notice, give yourself a good three weeks before to get it sorted.

I will not be so tardy this year, thanks OP :T

  • Hiya Heather 1,000 tesco clubcard points is worth £10 in store when using your blue clubcard vouchers or £40 when converted into clubcard deals.

The tesco website has more information on deals etc. I am quite tempted to do this myself.

Can anyone confirm if you AND your partner can open one?

(Also shouldn't this be moved to the savings board?)

The 5.25% rate only applies to £50000+ balances. It's only 4.1% for balances between £1 and £2999

technically, this will COST me the lost interest while the cheque/ bank transfer is in progress from my other account

ALSO, as this pay LESS interest than my other account I lose more interest.

Technically speaking this isn't free as there is the loss of other interest earned.

However, 1000 cc points are worth considerabley more than the lost interest - so a profit to be made.

Darktechno was actually correct IMO - if a little harsh!

NOTE - if you take it out of your ISA you'll have to use another £1k of your allowance to put it back in.
