Its "FREE" cause you don't have to spend any money but you do need a minimum deposit to achieve the criteria
For a limited time only, Tesco Savings is rewarding new customers with 1,000 free Clubcard points when they open an Instant Access Savings Account.
Customers who open an account between Wednesday 25 April and 19 June 2007, and have a balance of £1000 or more on 30 June 2007, will receive the points in their August Clubcard statement.
I have just phoned Tesco to confirm this offer and this is correct (although it doesn't appear on the website)

You don't have to SPEND anything to get the points, therefore its free! Besides considering lots of members who collect clubcard points read this section I couldn't think of a more appropriate section to put it in.
Is there any need to be so rude considering I am trying to help people benefit from this offer. Do you see a referral link, do I earn from this.
Be nice!0 -

Your right it doesn't appear on the website. The reason I learnt of this offer was because it was mentioned in The Mirror yesterday.
I phoned Tesco up and the offer is exactly as stated above.
In answer to another query about if you deposit £1000 in the day before the date for qualifying for the points would you still get the points.
As far as I know, yes, but give plenty of time to let it clear, also the account opening procedure involves sending documents and this could delay the process of getting your money credited to qualify.
I'm also going to answer an unanswered question too. Many of you will be saying we don't all have £1000 sitting around. Well that £1000 aint my money. By using 0% on purchases credit cards I've built up a little 'nest egg' so I'm puitting it to use.
Another thing, I opened two accounts one for me an one for my husband!!!!0 -
Anybody know what the interest rate is on this account?
EDIT: Just looked 5.25% - not brilliant.0 -
They had the same offer last year I think.
Does this anyone know if this offer only applies to "New" accounts opened, or can existing account holders of Instant Access Savings Accounts can get the points too if they have £1000 deposited by the deadline?0 -

Rubbish interest I agree, but I don't intend leaving my money with them once I have qualified for the points.
What other savings account can earn me £40 in a month or two, or if I deposit late, a matter of days!!!0
