Item posted on 2nd Jan not received, buyer opened dispute!

Had an item won on 1st Jan, buyer messaged asking when they would get it same day. I replied I will post tomorrow and I did, first class. I have heard nothing since. Today I receive a message from ebay to say a dispute has been opened for non delivery, it also says that the buyer says they have contacted me and I haven't responded. It says I have until the 11th to refund the buyer in full.

Obviously I will refund a buyer if an item doesn't arrive but this seems a little impatient to me. It was posted on 2nd Jan is it only the 8th now, plus there was the weekend and the fact that they must be aware how busy Royal Mail are at this time of year.

I have sent a polite response asking them to contact their local sorting office to check if it is there and that I will refund on the 11th if it has not been received by then (Friday) and thanked them for their patience. Do you think this is ok?

eBay disputes should take a lot longer than 3 days, that seems a bit of an odd time frame.

Yu are a bit stuck as if you let this dispute time out you get a warning on your dashboard, so whatever you do refund before eBay close the dispute.

I would check the time frame though and even phone eBay to ask why this is so quick.

Sounds very scammer like - they are very impatient about getting their grubby hands on your items. They dodn't even make it look genuine. If i get these sort of emails - i add tracking.

Nothing you can do now. Just hope they are genuine.

I never ring my sorting office - and would never ask a buyer to. Thats an MSE obsession. It can take hours to get an answer - and they are queueing out the door. If i get a card - thats fine. If not - tough.

P.s the post is very QUIET at the moment. I bought 20 items sunday and yesterday, some 2nd and sone 1st class - all arrived today. Also - when i go to post office - its been empty.

After opening the dispute and saying in the dispute that they have been trying to contact me with no reply they actually did reply to my message that I sent through the dispute. They want their refund now as it is a week late, !!!!!!! It was posted a week today, taking out the weekend it is a few days late at most. Then they say refund me now and I will still give you good feedback.

i will still leave u good feedback if u refund me?

Damn right. eBay will be able to see the discussion too, if it all took place via their messaging service.

I will be in work, are they as receptive if you email or is phoning the best option?

Yes it did, I don't know if they sent it through the dispute console but it is in my ebay messages.

I have replied saying that I am sorry they haven't received I am more than happy to refund Friday if they confirm on Friday that they still haven't received it.

 What made the buyer think they would get the item the day after they bought/won it?

I always look at the estimated date of arrival and if I don't get my item the day after the last date I send a message to the buyer to say I haven't received my item.

I also give a few additional days if the item was posted at the weekend ect but not everyone is like me and most are to quick to open a dispute.

Block the person in question so they can't buy stock from you again as I have a feeling they have the item they just want it for free.

    ?

Ebay can remove any feedback this customer posts as he is basically blackmailing you and more then likely they will give you bad feedback.

I am pretty fair as a seller I used to sell on there as self employed some years ago and have few thousand positive feedback and can only think of at the most 2 negs I had received from loons. Things go wrong, I made mistakes, things get lost and you refund that's how it is. I only sell a couple of items every now and then and nothing of real value and very rarely have any problems, in fact this is the first item to go missing for at least a year or so. I am happy to refund if they haven't received it by Friday which I think is fair, I will probably get a neg from not crumbling straight away to the feedback extortion but there we are.
