I feel like such a fool for being duped by these con artists. I stupidly missed the warning on the site about not being affiliated with HMPO, and like previous posts, assumed it was the official passport office. I filled out the form, payed my £69 (YES - YOU HEARD RIGHT - £69), signed and returned the application form and thought no more of it. A couple of weeks later I received a letter from HMPO informing me that I hadn't paid their fee.
Obviously, this is my fault for not taking more care.
Their warning on the site should be changed to
"DON'T USE US - WE ARE ROBBING B#STARDS AND MAKE MONEY FOR NOTHING"
This might be too late for you but it might be worth checking the T&Cs of the website you used - there are a number of different ones being discussed on this thread - to see if you can get a refund.
Some websites do offer a refund - less an admin fee - even after they've processed your application.
Also, be aware that it's not just for passport renewal that these websites exist. Watch out for the following:
EHIC
ESTA
Driving Test booking
Driving licence renewal
Return of Tax Return0 -
Passport.net got my money I have ad blocker on Firefox as well I am surprised it was at the top of Google and not shaded pink!
Well it looks like I'm not the only one that got diddled out of their money then! Has anyone else noticed that it looks exactly the same as the Universal Job Match web site? I was on it earlier in the day and just didn't think and they had me! Looking back now I clearly see the notice on the page but hey that's in hindsight. They have taken the full £72.50 out of my account, and I have cancelled it. I've heard nothing back so Trading Standards told me to send a letter by registered post stating they are in breach of contract by not refunding my money minus the £8. Has anyone else done this Trading they must spend a lot of time in the small claims court. I also can't be sure that the address was legit it's somewhere in Hampshire the only address the Post office could fins was a Global Travel address so maybe that's them. I just can't understand how these people are allowed to continue.0 -

Because what they are doing isn't illegal.0 -

There is no original content in that post whatsoever.
Every single word is lifted directly from the thisismoney article.
Ever thought of becoming a journalist, Wantmemoney?
have you ever thought about running one of these rip-off websites?
have you ever thought about spending all your 'working' MSE day promoting and defending these rip-off sites?
have you ever thought about spending all your time on MSE trying to get posts that are negative to these rip-off sites deleted?0 -

doing = trading;
trading = creating websites + signing contracts + financial transactions + customer servicing ;
oh sorry I forgot to add
customer services = not responding to emails + denying refund0 -

Are you on something today?
None of your posts make sense as you seem to be talking in riddles.0 -

OK, so it sounds like you've used one of the websites (there are a number of different ones, several being discussed on here) that do give a refund (minus £8 admin).
Did you contact them in the way they said in their T&Cs?
If you emailed them, there is a specific email address to use.
If you didn't sent your refund request there, that may be why you haven't had your refund.
At least you've acknowledged that there is a clear notice on the website you used but you just didn't see it. :T
Makes a refreshing change from those people banging on about 'hidden in the small print'. :cool:
Hope you get your refund sorted out.0 -

I believe Hpuse was trying for irony (but sadly failed). :rotfl:0 -
Thanks yeah I had a lapse in judgement and they got my money. There was only an email address to contact them on no phone number. I've heard there used to be a premium rate number but that seems to have gone now. I've sent a letter saying they are in breach of contract by not refunding me via recorded delivery, I have no idea if the address is real though. I phoned up retail dispute and they said that they are a legit company but they deal with hundreds of complaints from them every week. I understand what they are doing is legal but just barely. Did anyone see Rip off Britain a couple of weeks back Passport.net was on there. I just hope the swines refund me.0

I got refunded my money in the end minus the £8 as expected I only had one random email from Passport.net at 7pm in the evening asking for my order ID and it got refunded to my paypal account a couple of days later. I can live with the eight quid loss! Lets hope they get the law changed soon so conmen like this can't keep doing it. If it happens to anyone else I'd recommend getting a recorded delivery letter sent as soon as possible it seemed to work for me.0
