Just wondering if you can help. There are a group of people on a youview forum search community.youview.com. (Please type in subtitles to see threads.) who are trying to get subtitles put onto the demand channels on Youview. I think we all bought through talktalk and BT presuming they were on there as they are on pc versions of the iPlayers. We are now left out of pocket by cost of installation and monthly subscriptions. BBC says they may have subtitles on an update some time this year! Do not buy Youview if you are deaf or hard of hearing!

You can install YouView yourself and there is no monthly subscription.
If you are subscribing to BT Vision or Talk Talk TV that is a separate issue. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -

Yet again uninformed. Which is surprising, saying you had a YouView box.
YouView fully supports both subtitles and audio description too.
But it's up to the TV providers to provide such encryption with their programmes. Not the platform they broadcast on.
After all, if you wanted subtitles on a BBC1 television progamme and they were not available, would you pursue Freeview over the matter? Err, no, you wouldn't.0 -

I did not refer to the subtitles, rather the OP's reference to installation and subscription costs of YouView. My you are prickly today.;)
I like YouView, the trial box is with my DD and she thinks its great to.
Re reading my post I guess I was not too clear. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -

If you were quoting and replying to a post on an internet forum, would you read it first? Err, yes, you would.0 -
The provision of subtitles is part of BT Youview's accesibilty policy so the non provision of subtitle is in violation of this policy. So what can be done?0

It would be up to a user to pursue each of the four channels to provide such.
However, the BBC have already stated they are fully committed to, and are working on, the provision of subtitles on the BBC iPlayer on the YouView platform. And this will be enabled with a future YV firmware update.0
