Universal Credit to be paid monthly?

Is that correct? Just heard it on the TV

Anyone know?

So for example JSA people will probably get £71 x 2 = £142 for two weeks which is in arrears and then nothing for a month?

I did hear a while back it was to be paid in arrears, monthly. I also heard, but don't know how true it is that they would be paying the housing benefit to the claimant and not the landlord.I think that would be a silly idea to be honest.

I am worried now about my bills that I wont be able to pay for a month and now get into debt! My phone will be cut off and all sorts.

Its stupid to say (just found this on the net) 'will be paid out once-a-month to help people prepare for the working environment' like none of us have had a job before!!!!!!!

When you have only £282 every 4 weeks to live on its a lot harder than say having £1600 that I used to have to live on!

I will have to try to find someone to permenantly borrow £280 from be cause as soon as I would get my £ I'd have to pay them back then borrow it again to pay the following months bills.

I bet no one knows what we are going to do for money for a month.

HB is already paid to the claimant if they live in private rented accommodation unless they request it to be paid direct to LL.

yes, HB is going to be paid as part of the universal credit payment, and when people are swapped onto UC they will have up to 5 weeks with no money. you are not going to suddenly swap to UC though, it's a long roll out with final stragglers taking up to 2 years (I think) to be swapped to UC. There will be exceptional cases where direct payments will still be made to the landlord, but only in very exceptional circumstances.

How do they think anyone will survive with no £ for 5 weeks I don't know.

The JSA moto call it that is 'the amount of money the govenment say you need to live on' so yeah lets see people live on thin air for 4-5 weeks!

I will not be able to attend the Work Programme if I have no £ to get there. What a crock of !!!!!

The only advice I can give is to try not to have ANY change in your circumstances for as long as possible. Anything that is reportable to your benefits agency will trigger a change onto UC.

  • Good idea, monthly pay. What do you think happens when you get a job they pay you on day one. No you get paid sometimes after working for a month depending on when pay day is.
Get into the real world, get a job.
