Bt £15.50 Price Increase?????

Hi I would really appreciate some advice from anyone on this.
I received a letter 20th April from BT Customer Billing saying the following:
The BT Monthly Payment Plan splits your estimated bill (based on previous usage) into 12 equal and manageable payments. From time to time we review this service to see if your usage is higher or lower than estimated.
Our recent reviews shows that the amount you are currently paying currently will not cover your future bills. Your payments have therefore been reassessed for one or a combination of the following reasons:
1. An increase in your call usage
2. A recent increase in your rental charges
3. An outstanding amount brought forward from a previous bill
Therefore we will increase your monthly payments from £34 to £49.50, your new credit limit is £173.00.
Today I rang BT and was put through to 6 different departments and no one could help me so I have consequently sent them a complaint via email. I have BT Total Broadband Option 2 and BT Together Option 1. I use no more than 3hrs a day of the Internet and seldom use the home phone. I have paid direct debit £34 every month since November 2006.
Firstly is there any way I can cancel my contract with BT because according to them I am tied in until May 2008.
If there is no way I can end my contract with BT what shall I do to minimise the charges they impose?

BT said I was tied in too, they upgraded my internet for free and I thought nothing of it. But supposedly when they upgraded they tied me in for 18months. I fought it as I hadn't signed any contract.......I'm now a virgin media customer. I was meant to be tied in till next january or something. I had no charges either. Just be persistent and they'll give in, they don't like hassle. That's why they just keep passing you to different departments, eventually one of them gives in0

What is your complaint?
Is your account in credit or in arrears? If the latter, then it is only fair that they increase the DD. If the former, just ask them to reduce the DD.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
But why would my bill be in arrears if I pay £23 for broadband a month and £11 for line rental and have probably used the landline once in the last 5 months. I thought that the BT Broadband and BT Together packages I signed to that the internet use was inclusive as long as I don't overuse it ie. more than 12hrs a day.
This is what I asked BT and they could not answer my question hence why I have sent email of complaint after being put through to several different departments and no one could explain why my monthly payment was being increased by £15.50.0 -
Yes I have checked my bill and it states on there that they have received all £34 via direct debit every month since we started with BT.0

If it's not in arrears & not like likely to go into arrears, they should not increase monthly payments.
Check your quarterly bills.
If utility company want to increase my monthly payments I check what's going on, so my bill will not end up with a large credit.
They always easily agree to decrease any increase in monthly payments, if I disagreed with it.
