phones 4 u warranty

My sony phone was sent for repair, estimate came back for £71.99, phone was in warranty but, surprisingly repair was not covered. They suggest I go through insurance which is £50 excess. Any suggestions as to how I do not have to pay as I am not happy with their diagnosis.How come nothing is ever under warranty.
