Most powerful car with cheap road tax??
I do a lot of motorway driving but like everyone else, I want to save save save on the costs. As all cars in road tax Band B cost only £35 a year to tax, I was trying to find the most powerful car in that group. It has to be a diesel for it to be economical too.
The two that I found are the Clio or Megane 1.5 Dci 100bhp. Any advance on that???

I do not understand why if you can afford a powerful car you can't afford the roadtax. Seems a bit silly to me. Spend a few £k on a car but can't stump up £115 a year?! Road tax is relatively cheap compared to other car expenses and only comes once a year. We'll be expecting free insurance and petrol next
But to get the best BHP in the band you'd probably need to find a car that can be easily modified to give higher BHP output. I do not know about the implications for insurance in doing this though, or if it will in fact change the tax band. Also where you can get much more BHP out of an engine, chances are it will wear quicker.0 -
You need to re-check your data...the basic dci Renault engine on the Clio is 68ps, the same as a Fiesta 1.4 TDCI engine.
Renault also offer 86ps and 106ps engines at higher cost
The ps rating on an engine is within 2% of the british hp rating and is a literal translation of 'horse power' - ps is short for 'Pferdestärke' and this measuremnet is used across a number of euopean manufacturers.
Don't concentrate on ps or hp values, look for actual performance stat's if you want a small plodder engine in the low tax bands. The ps/hp value means little to you if it is pulling a huge amount of metal around it.“Official Company Representative

Wife has a clio 86hp, slowish, fantastic mpg ie always over 60 mpg. £35tax
Daughter has Megane 86hp, much quicker, ave 50-55mpg, £35 tax
I have Megane Est 106hp, no quicker than daughters,45-55mpg, £115 tax
Also to add the BMW 1 series as suggested looks excellant in all respects, apart from initial cost.I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
Whats so important about saving £70 a year when you going to have to fork out far more than that to get the 'economy' engines, Why not save a few hundred and buy a entry level model, most are class C's anyway. Hardly breaking the bank0
