Exchange is fibre enabled, but my line isn't?

Hi, I've been looking into getting fibre optic broadband and was pleasantly surprised when I found that my local exchange had been enabled already. However, when I enter my phone number into sky/bt etc it tells me that my line is not enabled yet! Is it possible for my line to be incapable of receiving fibre even though the exchange that its on has been enabled?
ETA - Are there any websites that will tell me when my line will be enabled?

The fibre needs to be available to the cabinet for connections to be allowed,, so usually just a case of waiting for that to happen so look for openreach vans nearby to see how thats going on...0

Ah, okay. Is the exchange being enabled an indication that this is likely to happen sooner rather than later?0

Most people would recommend checking the samknows.com Broadband checker show any information on fttc, thats usually a good place to check re expected dates..0

Seek out ou nearest BT street cabinet, they have a habit of putting a sticker on them when the FTTC is available. Well they do round here. That gum you like is coming back in style.0

Hmm, the one just along the road from me looks just like this already!
ETA - just checked out the samknows website. It says FTTC status:
Available in some areas. Quite annoying that my are isn't one of them considering that this cabinet is the only one for my whole town, and its on my road!
Thanks for your help!0 -
You sure it's the only cabinet for the whole town? There are usually multiple cabinets per exchange.
My exchange is enabled but our cabinet isn't - too few houses connected to it to make it commercially viable for Openreach. Currently trying to get the neighbours to club together and raise the £35,000 contribution Openreach want to install FTTC....0 -
Oh, maybe I'm getting confused then!
Yes, after another look at samknows, it seems I am confused! lol. The exchange (that covers the whole town) is on the next over from mine, the 'thing' at the end of my road is a cabinet. It's this 'cabinet' that is sporting the huge 'fibre is here' sticker! So shouldn't my line be able to get it?0 -
Yup should be.

That BT checker says yes to fibre on that checker using my postcode ,but then changes its mind and says no, once I get to putting my phone number in the order.
Also just come across a doc from BT for fibre roll outs in Dec 2011.. My postcode is listed on it twice. One says FTTP deployed to 93% of lines, and the other says FTTP deployed to 6% of lines. Does this mean that I'm in the 1% of my town that can't get fibre!?0
