Can I still be fined if I didn't get a parking ticket?

This afternoon I parked in a pay and display bay for literally 2 mins. I didn't buy a ticket as I was in a hurry to get to the bank. When I came back to my car I saw a traffic warden writing out a ticket on his hand-held thingy. I rushed across the road (nearly killing myself), jumped into my car and sped away before he could give me the ticket. Will I still receive a parking ticket in the post?

Not sure. I think there is some law about them having to fix the ticket to your car to be enforcible, but it would be your word against his so you might just get the fine in the post.

Was the traffic warden definately ticketing your car? Did you speak to him at all or just jump in and drive?! Would he not be able to say that you drove off as he was writing the ticket?

Either way I think you should really have paid however long you were going to be in the space

Another thing out of curiosity where is your bank - I would love one where I was in and out within 2 mins!

About a month ago the court of appeal (I believe it was) ruled that a ticket had to be attached to the car or the driver. It was not sufficient to post it to them at a later date. This link should assist http://driving.timesonline.co.uk/tol/life_and_style/driving/article1577234.ece sorry I can't do the fancy link job (old dog and new tricks).

He was standing right next to my car and I saw the ticket coming out of his machine. I shouted at him from the other side of the road, "Hey! I'm just going now!" He didn't even bat an eyelid at me.

Actually, it was my local Nationwide building society. Usually very quiet.

I find myself in a similar but worse situation.

I recently applied for a mortgage, only for them to come back asking me to explain a CCJ, so I did a credit check found the case number phoned the court and found out it was to do with some parking fine.

Strange I thought haven't received a parking ticket for a couple of years so how did this happen.
So, rang the parking company's (private, not employed by council) solicitors, who informed me the date I had parked illegally and the town (home town), but couldn't tell me the street although they said they had a photo and would phone me back. This was three days ago.

All the correspondence had apparently gone to my previous address, so I have to hold my hand up and admit I hadn't informed DVLA of my new address, partly absent mindedness and partly because I'm likely to return to my old address.

So I am little confused as to the best cause of action, as i clearly have to get the CCJ removed from credit record, which I believe you can do, by asking the court to set aside the ruling.

However, what excuse do I use, didn't receive notice to pay, didn't get the original ticket on the windscreen, not at the address at time of summons/ruling. All apparently legitimate, apart from the complication of me not notifying DVLA of my new address.

Also what is my position with the parking company do I have to pay them if I didn't receive the original ticket?

    any help much appreciated.

I think you will find that just because he was unable to attach the ticket as you drove off, it will still stand? Makes sense really, not his fault he wasn't able to attach it, and the offence had been committed, watch your letter box.

I used to always write a note saying
gone to get change for meter, back in two minutes
when I was quickly popping to the bank * and the car park attendant never questioned me , don't do it now as I have moved and now car park - bank - car park takes a bit longer than it did then.

    * was back in the days when the bank had eight counters and every one had a member of staff working from it and you could be in and out in a few minutes as there were hardly any queues.

Your memory is obviously a lot better than mine.

I had exactly the same experience, drove off whilst warden was typing out ticket but before it was actually put on the car. Still got the ticket through the post and had to pay!

However didn't bother to contest it as I was illegally parked - fair cop hey?
