Squirrels

Can someone move to an appropriate thread if this is in the wrong place.

I live in a ground floor flat and recently have noticed squirrels running around the garden; very sweet and amusing - until the day I saw one of them run up the wall, clamber on the bent bit of the down pipe where it connects to the guttering and disappear between the eaves and the roof.
My OH spoke to the upstairs neighbour, who says they aren't in his loft.
The point is should we be worried?
Are they going to do any damage? Am I right in thinking squirrels are rodents? which means they gnaw to stop their teeth from growing!:eek: and will be doing damage up there!:eek:
