When using an RBS Card reader, the plastic one which we can use at home.
can more than 1 RBS user use this card, for their account?
or each person has to have their own one, allocated to them?
(as you have to activate and link card readers online, with your debit card)

There's nothing special about the card READERS. Almost all the major banks' readers are identical apart from the badge. You can have several readers or borrow someone else's without issues.
However, a card is issued to an individual and should only be used by that individual. With a joint account more than one card is issued and each person is supposed to use only their own card/PIN. It is a breach of Ts&Cs to allow someone else to use ones card.0 -

yes, the individual card has to be used by the individual, but the card reader can be used by anybody, right ?0 -

The devices are identical, are not linked to anything and don't need activation.
Some do.
HSBC require you to enter a code from the device and also a 6 digit activation code.
You cannot use more than one device at a time on the account.
Yes you could use the same device on more than one account if it was registered. But that means that you need the device to access each acc.Never ASSUME anything its makes a>>> A55 of U & ME <<<0 -
I stand corrected then...
My Barclays, Nationwide and Smile devices are really identical.0 -
They are interchange except the HBSC one.
I can use my barclays card reader with my Natwest card and vice versa.
Ive even used a Co op one in the past to service my Natwest account.Im an ex employee RBS GroupHowever Any Opinion Given On MSE Is Strictly My Own0 -
The only thing is that the symbols on the keys may be different, but as long as you know which key you would use on the reader belonging to the bank that you're accessing then the key in the same place on another bank's reader will work fine (with the apparent exception of HSBC).0

We have been discussing card readers and the HSBC security device is not a card reader.0 -
There are at least two separate systems in use in the UK.
Smile, co-op, nationwide, lloyds, cards readers are interchangeable, but not with the devices Natwest uses for business accounts. We need the earth for food, water, and shelter.
The earth needs us for nothing.
The earth does not belong to us.

My Natwest and smile/co-op readers return different number combinations in reply to the same input number so I agree, these must use different algorithmns.Ethical moneysaver0
