TalkTalk wifi password problem

Options
Trying to help a friend at work who has just bought a Kindle Fire for his her daughter's Christmas.

Basically she cannot connect to WiFi at home using the details supplied to her by TalkTalk CS. They are saying it must be the Kindle but she can connect to relatives' WiFi so it's obviously not the Kindle. It appears that the info she is being given is not correct.

Does anyone on TalkTalk know if there is a normal convention for the password or a way of changing the password without knowing the original password.

It will probably also help to change the SSID to something a little more obvious too.

  • Might be worth mentioning that TalkTalk passwords are case-sensitive. (I learned this the hard way - wasted a good hour of my life!!)

My password is on a sticker on the router.

    Thanks.

Just managed to get it sorted with her. I found the TalkTalk members forum and searched for WiFi password. Brought up this thread.

    http://www.talktalkmembers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=89246&highlight=wifi+password

I phoned her and talked her through it. Password was not on the underside of the router which was where I had told her to look before Christmas. She had then contacted TalkTalk CS who gave her the SSID and password. After not being able to connect she got back onto TalkTalk CS who went through various things with her. She said she spent a couple of hours with them over it.

I took her through accessing the router with her browser as per the thread. Took all of around 3 minutes to discover the password she had been given was nothing like the password on the router's setup page. She has never changed it and wouldn't know how.

With the correct password she is now able to connect the Kindle. Why TalkTalk's CS couldn't do this I'll never know.
  • Glad she got it sorted - you'll have a reputation as a tekkie now!

I already have. I'm the ICT Co-ordinator at work.

I did tell her to ask me if she was having problems but only returned to work today to find that she had. She probably didn't want to bother me over Christmas holidays.
