Getting remedial damp work done

Hi there :)

As a part of our mortgage we have to have some remedial damp work done that was brought up on one of these 'damp and timber surveys''! I know in most people's opinions they're a con, but we're over a barrel and have to get the work done by someone competent, as we have a retention fee put on our mortgage agreement (£1000).

My boyfriend's had two quotes already and just wanted to see how they compared. Both quotes come in at around £1100 (in n.yorkshire area) as an estimate (waiting on exact quotes). This included:

1/ Hacking off 1m high of plaster on 5 walls
2/ Injecting a membrane into two walls
3/ Skimming with another waterproof membrane on the brick
4/ Rendering the brick
5/ Skimming to give the final finish ready to paint.

All in all, three days work (they reckon). Both plasterers think the cause is from previous bridging of the old plaster. House is c1880's built.

What are your opinions, is this too much to pay and is all this work needed?
