A forum friend is getting a domestic battery installed next Friday. It's part of a DNO supported deployment for research on the impact of such 'things'. So he's getting a small discount, though we both think it's still not quite economical, but fun to take part.

So approx £2k for 4kWh (useable).

Would anyone be interested in knowing how it goes, import changes etc etc?

If so, then I can update on here, or perhaps have a dedicated thread to storage?
Mart. Cardiff. 8.72 kWp PV systems (2.12 SSW 4.6 ESE & 2.0 WNW). 20kWh battery storage. Two A2A units for cleaner heating. Two BEV's for cleaner driving.

3k for 4kwh - does that mean the battery pack in my leaf is worth 18 :)
Possibly not 'worth' but I wouldn't be at all surprised if that's what you'd be charged if you wanted a new set for the car. VW's list price for an e-Up! battery pack (18kWh) is around £12k (plus labour to fit +vat on both) !

It is probably worth having a dedicated thread for storage, as there seems to be quite a few things happening, and costs are starting to drop a little; but still not economical for most.

OK. Once things are up to speed I'll set something up.

Regarding economics, he and I both came to roughly the same conclusions:-
    1. The price needed to be around £1,500.
    2. We are both too impatient, and want to have a play. After all, costing/losing £500 over 10yrs isn't the worst hobby to have!
    3. "I'm all right Jack" as I get to live vicariously whilst he spends the money. :o

I'm also thinking that going off grid could be a relatively inexpensive hobby compared to some, like golfing or fishing or whatever. :)

I'd just be a summer hobby though as I'm not geting enough winter generation to even cover my usage, let alone have any spare generation for a battery.

Solar takes its share of Indian electricity to 1%
The country has installed more than 10GW of solar with long-term ambitions to increase that level by an order of magnitude.

The rate of commissioning of plants has also gathered pace. According to Mercom’s India Solar Project Tracker, the country has put 3.6GW of solar online in the 2016 calendar year compared to 2.1GW in all of 2015. Mercom expects the 2017 figure to approach 8GW.

India is aiming for 100GWp of PV by 2022, so that could be 10% of their leccy, from a standing start just a few years ago.

Why sunny South East Asia has been slow to go solar

This BBC report is a little weak on information, but interesting none the less.

London boroughs tackle fuel poverty with solar and storage
Three London boroughs have begun testing the potential of more than 40 solar plus storage installations to reduce the bills of households in fuel poverty.

The 24/7 Solar project, which is part funded by National Energy Action, is being led by Camden Council working in partnership with Islington and Waltham Forest councils. The scheme is testing the potential benefits of storing daytime electricity generated by solar PV to supplement the householder’s evening use.

Using residential batteries from Moixa (32), sonnen (6) and Growatt (3), in combination with solar arrays ranging from 1.62kWp to 3.78kWp, the trial will collate data over a year from across 41 installations to compare performance during the lifetime of the project.
