depends on the model of phone, Nokia has PcSuite , Motorola has Phone tools all of which will allow you to send sms, ringtones, games , pictures etc to your phone or do a full back up of the data via Infra red
PcSuite is a free download from the nokia site , not sure about the motorola oneEx forum ambassador

i have a hp printer with ir, just send the pic from a nokia phone via ir and it will print in the best available resolution no wires or pc needed. doesn't work with a samsung phone as the pics come out tiny.0

without any software you can
select files>send>via infrared> and the notebook (or other IR enabled devices) wil get itLife should not be taken seriously, as no one would get out alive0 -

Sometimes you need to enable the InfraRed, that happened to me when i bought a new dell laptop, i did not remember exactly how i did but i think you need to go in the system menu while windos is booting, press F5 or whatever is the key for your computer to access these menu, enable it thereLife should not be taken seriously, as no one would get out alive0 -

Also it used to be alot easier under windows 98 and 95.
It had its own icon with red semi circles. (infrared)
In windows XP this does not exist.
Another problem with the windows XP infrared is that you can not send data to
your mobile, only receive.0 -
On my laptop it automatically detects when another device is in range. When I turn on my samsung D500 my laptop detects it and creates Icons that let me download files and upload files as well. This si with no other phone software installed.0

that is when the InfraRed is already enabled, it detects Infra red devices in range, without software, you can only send from the fone, not receiveLife should not be taken seriously, as no one would get out alive0
