OK

Going to France for 2 months. Have unlocked my old mobile and want to know the 'best' local PAYG SIM card to get. Will be touring mostly Western France/Pyrenees/Med.

Any good ideas welcomed.

Cheers

I have personally used NRJ and Virgin and both been OK. NRJ available from Carrefour and Darty shops and top-up quite easy via text rather than listening to an automated system in French.

All SIMs seem to have a shortish credit expiry date (NRJ used to be unlimited) but for two months - no problem. Just be prepared to lose the number if you don't return sooner than 6 or eight months when the SIM effectively shuts down.

Sometimes staff in stores will ask for an address in France along with ID (passport OK) so have one to hand, even if it's not yours exactly.......

when i lived there i was on orange, but when i went back for a few weeks last summer Virgin was the best deal for PAYG sims. I got it from The Phone House, which is basically the Carphone Warehouse with a different name!

I'd use a callback service, as the ordinary tariffs aren't so great there, though Orange have some interested unlimited options for a few euros, or SFR has an option with calls only paying the first minute, either of which would be good with a calling card

    Thanks Guys

    Much appreciated info.

Are the Virgin SIMS the same as the PAYG ones you can get in the UK or are they a French version? (As you can probably tell I'm novice all things mobile!)

Virgin have a separate French company. These are available in supermarkets for 15€ if I remember correctly with about 6€ or so credit.
