pregnancy - how early on did you know?

it seems to silly posting this thread but im trying to put my mind at rest!
not trying for a baby at all. but had sex with condom new years eve and new years day. nothing seemed wrong when we took it off etc. but yesterday my mum hugged me and my boobs were so sore i yelped and had to stand back. i thought it was wierd as i normally get sore breasts around a week before my period but my period isnt due for another 2 weeks. i have an app on my phone and when we did the deed was during my 'fertile window'. so sore breasts, feeling very hungry and today feeling slightly off colour. surely you wouldnt get signs like this this early on? am i trying to make myself believe that i am?!?!?!
help please!

If your period isn't due for another 2 weeks, there is no way you would have any symptoms. Infact, there is no way you are 'pregnant' yet either.

Sore breasts can be caused by progesterone which rises in the second half of your cycle anyway. Everybody feels hungry and ill at times. In short, yes, you are 'symptom spotting' :p

the app on your phone only takes a guess at when your fertile window is. for most apps, they guess at 14 days after the first day of your period but actually you ovulate around fourteen days before your period.
for example, my cycle is 35 days. an app would assume i'd ovulate on the 14th day of my cycle but i ovulate on the 21st day of my cycle.

if your period isn't due for another two weeks then you can't be getting pregnancy symptoms as you should only be ovulating nowish and it takes 7-9 days for the embryo to implant.

considering it was protected sex a week before your guesstimated ovulation i'd say the chances of pregnancy are pretty slim but there is only one way to find out...

I usually know a week before I can get a test to turn positive, so at around 4 weeks, around cycle day 28. What CD are you on?

But pg and pmt symptoms are almost identical so it's hard. Do you have !!!!! lumps around your nipples? That's always a sure sign for me.

I got pregnant at the 'wrong' time in my cycle. My mum knew I was pregnant within 2 weeks. I didn't know until I was 7 weeks!! When I asked her why she didn't tell me, she said she thought I must've known but was keeping it quiet.

It sounds unlikely that you're pregnant, but not impossible. I'm afraid you'll have to wait a couple of weeks to find out.

Well, slightly different but when you've had IVF these are symptoms you can get when the pregnancy has taken hold and your hormone levels start rising. These symptoms can appear in your 2 week wait, that's the 2 weeks (after the embryos have been put back) you wait before doing a pregnancy test.

If you don't want to get pregnant could you still take the morning after pill?

It could still be your mind playing tricks though but l thought l'd be honest, sorry.

    Happy moneysaving all.

Some months my boobs are *extremely* sore, and it starts just after ovulation (so 2 weeks before my period), other months nothing at all.. so it sounds completly normal to me. Very unlikey you are pregnant!!

Do you want to be? If so, sit back and wait and see.

If not, time to look at the alternatives.

If this isn't the first time you've used condoms for contraception but is the first time you've ever had a pregnancy scare, then maybe!

Although the average luteal phase is 14 days as lilymay said, this varies from woman to woman, and it is possible to have a LP of 15-16 days or even longer and still be in normal limits. You are also in your most fertile phase 2 days before ovulation up to the day of ovulation itself, and in some cases sperm can survive in the body for up to 5 days. So if you had a normal luteal phase of 16 days and your period is due around 18 January, then possibly particularly if you first noticed the sore breasts and feeling a bit different over the weekend which is about the earliest an egg could have travelled down the tubes and implanted in your womb, so starting the production of HCG.

I'd do a sensitive pregnancy test at the weekend if you want to set your mind at rest.

I know you were using a condom so not actively trying but would you be pleased or horrified if you were? (because what you do from here on in depends on that). If you'd be horrified, I think if you get yourself to a FPC TODAY that you are on the very last day possible where they can insert a coil with a good chance of stopping a pregnancy continuing. You are too late for the Morning After Pill however.
