Jobcentre Plus

Yeah I know there's a forum for benefit related issues but I just want to vent ...
Was made redundant in February 2007. Applied straight away for contributory Jobseeker's Allowance ... have worked for 23 years full time for the same employer, paid my tax & NI in full all that time ... so you wouldnt have thought there'd be any problems getting some dole money, huh ?
It took them a month to consider my claim. And it was rejected. On the grounds that I haven't paid National Insurance in 2004/5 and 2005/6. Well that's funny. Cos it got taken off my payslip every month.
Seems my last employer hasn't posted my contributions to the Inland Revenue for those two years. Isn't that illegal ? Have tried contacting both my employer and the Inland Revenue - they're both as incompetent as each other. "They're looking into it" .... "They'll call me back" (they never do) ....
12 weeks later and still not so much as a ha'penny off the Job Centre.
Oh ... and my last employer ? Jobcentre Plus.
The most shambolic organisation in the public service by a mile. If that's how they treat former employees then God help the rest of you.

go and see the welfare rights people at the CAB, my sister was having similar problems when she lost her job last year and was getting passed from pillar to post by the jobcenter. She was desperate when I persuaded her to call at the CAB, she spoke to a lovely lady who sorted it all out for her and by the end of the day she had a gyro and her claim for JSA was set up.
Good luck0 -
Just wanted to say that I hope they get it sorted for you asap. I too have recently been made redundant after 18 years as a Civil Servant. I went to the Job Centre for the first time on Mon, so my claim is still at the beginning of the process. I still can't get my head round the fact that they could mess up something as important as your NI contributions. Good Luck!!0

I completly agree- I was out of work for 2 months prior to xmas and I got the first payment of job seeker allowance last week. The claim for houseing benefit is still on going.
You can bet your bottom dollar that illegal immigrants with their begging bowls wont have to wait even 5 minutes for money.0 -

I have probs here. Some 28 years ago I didn't sign up for benefits when having children as it was the 3 job offers and then out. I have subsequently signed up to buy into extra years superann. If I want to retire early (DH did it last year) I will relinquish thousands. He is now 60 and I have 7 years to go!
Now we are EU feel we are subsidising many! In fact feel we are subsidising too many and our culture going.

Dont take this the wrong way but the problem is not with JCP but with the employer who didnt pay your NI contributions for the 2 year period.
Its been a long time since I have claimed for benefit but dont they use the previous 2 years prior when assessing whether you are entitled or not?0 -
The point is the employer who didn't pass on the NI contributions was Jobcentre Plus (or its then incarnation of The Employment Service/DWP?)0
