The Smartprice passata in Asda is 29p so it's not a lot more than the 4 tins for £1, but whereas the chopped Toms are 400g, the passata is 500g

To be fair to Value brands, many of them *don't contain salt*, whereas many branded versions do, and if you don't have a heavy hand with salt during cooking, the difference is clearly noticeable.

    As the title says...

We have been using T*sco value tinned toms but after needing to seriously the bolognaise tonight realise they are totally tasteless at the moment.

Anyone got tips on good value, but tasty toms?

    !!!!!!? Tomatoes are tomatoes

They probably taste tasteless to you because they are the "real deal" - just tomatoes with no extras added like salt and seasoning!
  • The only ones I now buy are the Bella Ricella ones from Home Bargains. I get the Cherry Tomatoes in rich tomato juice - 3 for £1. Just as good as Sainsbury's TTD cherry toms which are now 89p a tin!!!!! They also do a chopped tomato variety but I think the cherry toms have a much better flavour. My store cupboard is packed with them, just in case they stop selling them!!!

  • 4 for £1 at b&m!

Although I keep an eye out at the local market, often get bags of cheap tomatoes, they're lovely in a ragu sauce!!
  • yesterday i got out of home bargains 3 for £1 on tins of cherry tomatoes - made a lovely tomatoe and basil pasta sauce with them

Aldi tinned toms or passata are both great at 31p for 400g or 29p for 500g respectively

Definitely wouldnt water it down- would ruin it for no benefit at all. Another vote here for Lidl tinned tomatoes and passata at a very reasonable price.
