just to update things, finally I have connected my iphone to itunes

however this was on a seperate notebook, not sure if it means anything, but the itunes on the notebook was a clean installed and unused version (never been used on the notebook)

yet when I delete and reinstall itunes on my main laptop, I always get all my previous apps etc in the itunes app, but can not connect or sync to itunes ???

how comes a clean install of itunes still has my previous apps in it ???

How are you doing this? Are you uninstalling it then running the new iTunes install, or are you just wiping over the previous iTunes install with the new one? Do you get an option to delete everything when uninstalling you old iTunes? If you look in the iTunes media folder, youl see everything is in there (including playlists, apps, music, memos, etc.). If this isn't being deleted, that's why the new install still has everything.

Have you also tried using a different USB port, could possibly be a faulty connection

Very glad you have the ability to sync now, well atleast to one computer!

Can you do anything in iTunes with the iPhone since it is now listed in the left hand pane (such as backup or syncing)?

The driver was a suggestion as your iPhone was charging, but not appears, so thought it may have not been installed, or may have had a problem installing. Just double check if you have the mobile Device Support installed by the checking the Program's and Features page in the control panel. Also check if the driver is installed, first plug in your iPhone then: My Computer > Properties > Device Manager (top of left hand pane) > Universal Serial Bus Controllers > Apple mobile Device USB Drive. Right click the Apple Mobile Device USB Drive and make sure it's enabled.

Thanks, at least I'm getting somewhere, knew MSE wouldn't let me down :rotfl::rotfl:
to be honest I never tried anything major, as the notebook doesn't get used much there wasn't many files etc to move over, however I did find 1 video file, which I dragged over to my iphone, (how good did this feel :rotfl::rotfl:)

as for the driver, I'll try anything if it works, like I said earlier I've been on apple forum and tried many, many optioins all have failed

    Thanks

on my previous itunes, there was a problem deleting the the program (via control program etc) anyhow a quick google search and I was able to identify the problem, then I deleted the whole program via control program
also during one of my many attempts one of the solutions told me exactly what other prpgrams to delete (about 5 in total all connected to itunes)
since deleting all these I have reinstalled itunes (the latest version) but still can't connect/sync

also I have tried 3 seperate usb ports on my laptop, none seem to connect to itunes etc

bit puzzled as to how all the apps including ones downloaded in the past few days appear in the apps section but I can't connect the phone etc :mad:

one of the many options I have tried in removing itunes etc

    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923

se the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order and then restart your computer:
    1. iTunes
    2. QuickTime
    3. Apple Software Update
    4. Apple Mobile Device Support
    5. Bonjour
    6. Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)

I have reinstalled itunes and guess what

    well here's a clue :mad::mad::mad::mad:

still can't connect or sync my iphone to itunes, what the hell is going on :mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

If the phone was recognised in Itunes on another machine then it suggests that Itunes on the original machine needs a complete uninstall, clear ALL folders relating to Itunes and its profiles, then reinstall afresh.

    Thanks

Thats the annoying thing, I've deleted itunes from my main laptop several times (the last time I'm certain I followed the instructions from apple by the book) the only thing I did not do after uninstalling everything was to shut down my laptop and restart ???

I'm going to recheck again later tonight, to see if I was supposed to do this

however I have deleted all programs connected with itunes several times now, and still my iphone will not sync/connect to itunes

slowly going stir crazy trying to reslove this :mad:

    update ???

what is it people say, read the instructions through, looking at them again, I'm thinking I may have missed off

    C:\Windows\SysWOW64\QuickTime
    C:\Windows\SysWOW64\QuickTimeVR

these two (can't belive it) anyway I'll try again tonight and make sure I do step by step will then update later, fingers crossed this time

right I'm cracking up here, I have just deleted/uninstalled all programs connected to itunes as per the link below
Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order and then restart your computer:
    1. iTunes
    2. QuickTime
    3. Apple Software Update
    4. Apple Mobile Device Support
    5. Bonjour
    6. Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923

except this time I can say the following

I have definately deleted everything I could and followed the instructions to the letter

the only problems are as follows

I did not have QuickTime listed on the control panel or in the programs folder ????

also after deleteing everything, (and shutting down the laptop) I reinatslled a fresh copy of itunes
however I appear to have a number of files ending .dll all dated 12/12/2012 ????

any other suggestions as I still can not connect/sync my iphone to itunes, despite deleting all traces and reinstalling a new version

    please, someone helpppppppppppppppp
