Stick with what you know. If Volvo is good enough, why change?PLEASE NOTEMy advice should be used as guidance only. You should always obtain face to face professional advice before taking any action.0

New or used? Any idea of budget?0

Yeah, what is your budget, what sort of age range? Have a look at the current range of Volvos if you are keen on them, but also have a look at the other German brands especially Mercedes, very good and can do hundereds of thousands of miles and are very comfortable.0

Can't go wrong with a Lexus, bullet proof reliability (toyota) but very plush inside!0

Thanks for the quick replies. It's been over ten years since I had a Volvo. I almost hesitate to tell you that for the last nine years I've been driving a Peugeot 307. Had a diesel one until it was written off on the motorway-I really wanted to replace it with another Volvo but was reluctant to spend too much when I really wasn't in a good frame of mind to make a choice at that time. So I went with another 307 as a cheapish stopgap choice. Petrol not diesel and much more expensive on a long journey. If there are delays it can take up to eight hours travelling and, as I get older, I now find the travel offputting.
I suppose max to spend would be about 12k ( preferably less...much less)-but I want to feel safe and to be able to walk when I get out of the car!0 -
The issues is what i find comfortable you may not.
You need to go and sit in the car for half an hour or maybe more.
I find my Mondeo perfect even though i have a back condition. My sister has a renault and says its comfortable yet after 10 minutes i get twinges. Mums Golf is the same 10 - 15 minutes in that i need to get out.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
You might like to try a Ford Focus. Lots on the market so you should be able to find a good one. The 1.6 Diesel is pretty economical and the boot is fairly large. Probably looking at the previous generation to get a diesel in budget or you can get a 2011/2012 petrol in Zetec trim with 30k miles for under £12k.0

Skoda Octavia? Skoda Suberb? Plenty of choice whatever your budget and good value reliable transport with good boots. No worries about the diesels either if you're making lots of long trips.0

Volvo's are very comfortable, hold their value very well and the recent models are very stylish and well equipped. But it will cost more initially than most other cars of a similar age and mileage, downside of holding its value well im afraid.0
