So are you saying you plan to enter a civil partnership? I got the impression before that you weren't.
if thats the exact wording, then that means your partner's current visa (ie the visa he came into the UK on) must be a fiance(e) or civil partner one. If your partner came into the UK on a different kind of visa, then the law as it is now, are the rules you come under when applying for a spouse settlement visa.0 -

This here one is the most important one here:you entered the UK in a different immigration category (for example, as a student), and you have been given permission to live here for a total of more than 6 months since your most recent admission to the UK. For example, you can switch if we gave you a 3-month visa and then permission to remain for 5 months, totalling 8 months. Your current permission must have been given in accordance with the Immigration Rules, not 'exceptionally' (outside the Immigration Rules).
Though thanks for clearing up what the first one means.
Now the difficult part is finding and filling out the correct form. So difficult.I work a 45 hour week. 12 hours round trip every day.
My money I have I invest on my blog. Any questions or help offered? I'd love to hear from you.0 -
I would really love some clarification of this section though.
Can anyone clarify what this means?
Thanks. Can you 'switch' if you are already in the UK?
You may be allowed to switch into the category of husband, wife or civil partner if:
you are currently in the UK with permission as a fiance(e) or proposed civil partner, or as the husband, wife, civil partner or unmarried/same-sex partner of a relevant points-based system migrant, and you are still with the same husband, wife or partner; or
you entered the UK in a different immigration category (for example, as a student), and you have been given permission to live here for a total of more than 6 months since your most recent admission to the UK. For example, you can switch if we gave you a 3-month visa and then permission to remain for 5 months, totalling 8 months. Hi.
I agree that you may need to seek professional advice. There is a lot of info online and it would be prudent to read/research and make a clear list of questions. Make an appointment with a suitable solicitor to get answers - DO NOT go in blindly as they cost money and you need to squeeze that time dry for what you can out of it. You could also consider seeing if you can make an appointment at the relevant embassies (UK and his country - there will likely be one in London) - they may be able to provide a free advice service though they take time and again, be prepared!
Whatever the outcome, you are right to not rush into marriage. This thread has more then one entry seeking advice on divorce and so, it shouldn't be suggested flippantly as the last thing you want is to face that!
Good luck - hope you find the answers you need.0 -

Admittedly I have only read this superficially, but we are now giving out spousal visas to people who just aren't spouses now?
What on earth is the logic behind that? What's next, a one-night-stand visa?0 -

even when I married, 11 years ago, you could get a settlement visa for a partner, you didn't have to be married.
And under no stretch of the imagination do "they just give them out" - there are reams of red tape, lots of money to find, T's to cross, I's to dot, and lots of hoops to jump through to get one.0 -

I'm afraid I have no advice on the visa side of things, but there will be knowledgeable posters along shortly I'm sure.
I'll ignore your insult given your personal problems.
Marriage isn't an enormous thing to enter into if one doesn't believe in it. It then becomes a contract, a means to an end.0 -
