Lloyds Credit Card closed but still showing available Credit ?.

Options
HI,
Just a quick bit of advice please.

My wife has recently closed her Lloyds Credit card, balance was NIL and letter received confirming closure and cards destroyed.

But when she logs into internet banking the account is there but shows:

Balance: NIL
Credit Limit: £3650
Available: £3650

Surely the Credit limit should be £0.00 and so should the Available balance ?, I can understand the card still showing in Internet banking as the letter said it might still show for up to 6 months, but not with available credit ?, I would have thought that for security if nothing else the limit should now be £0.00.

Is this normal or should she contact them ?.

"Recently" is far too vague term, is it not?

Its normal usually the credit is kept open for a few months just to ensure there are no pending recurring authorisations etc

So, do you expect everything to be reported instantly? I would expect that banks do this at least on monthly basis.

It took a month before my two MBNA CC accounts showed up as closed.

In a word 'Yes', I understand that reporting to a CRA takes time to appear as 'Settled' that's understandable as it is an external agency, but since both my Barlcaycard and my Amex cards were closed when I requested them I did not think that Lloyds would be any different.

Indeed in the case of Barclays I could not even log in the day after I phoned to cancel, so they were quick.

I guess (Personal point of view here) that I don't like the idea of a credit limit showing when the account is closed, having been a victim of card fraud in the past I would rather for security if for nothing else the limit was zeroed until such times as the account was deleted from the system.

Yes its probably silly but I hate loose ends, if its closed then it should say closed, not still available.

Just contact the lender or the CRA and ask them to update your CAIS.

Even if the account is closed, it can still be reopend if further transactions come through.

It certainly won't show as closed untill the next statement date. In case there are any transaction still to come through, or pending interest/charges.

  • I closed my Lloyds credit card over a year ago, settled with CRA however is still showing on my online banking with credit limit and available credit.
  • Afraid lloyds are one of the worst for leaving credit cards open, I have had to write to them in the past basically saying close it or else! Which luckily in the end they did, but took me around 6 months
