Basically I have had a fraudulant transaction before and as this is my main Bank account with both my wife and I's wages going in. I am therefore reluctant to use my debit card for this account. Therefore another account at FD would have been ideal, but not possible, so I was looking for another way of doing this with only a nominal amount in the account. For those that say, but you'll get your money back... you've no idea what I had to go through to get it back the last time.
Lots of debit/credit card fraud is just a guess of your card number - the fraudster will automatically attempt tiny transactions (a few pence) for thousands of combinations of card numbers until one works. Then they try larger transactions for those that do work.
So the risk doesn't come about when you use the card - many online retailers don't even ever have access to your card details - but just by owning a card.
Thus, I'm not convinced that what you propose will actually help keep your current account secure in the future.0 -

I think you've cracked it, thank you so much for your help. It's very warming to think there are still people go out of their way to help others with no gain. Can anyone explain to me how to put a signature here?

First one I looked at, HSBC, requires at least £500 paid in per month! Do'h.

Cash card only and the OP wants a debit card.
My apologies - I was wrong when I said all the big six offer such an account.
Plenty of choice from Halifax/Lloyds TSB/Barclays though.0 -
If you go with Barclays you can design your own debit card so it stands out from your regular card. It can also be used as a contactless card, should you have appropriate retailers around you.
However, unlike a prepaid card, should you spend more than you have in the account, prepare to be charged unauthorised overdraft fees.0 -
Check whether you have the option to 'switch off' overdrafts. I have a Nationwide account for internetting etc which can't be overdrawn, so I just pre-load it as and when.
Note this is a very old account - dunno if you can still get one without minimum funding.0 -

Any card can be subject to fraud, so even that pre paid one can be hit.
Prepaid card and any funds on it are tied up till you get a new card. Unlike your bank account.
You are with FD one of the best at dealing with fraud fast, from my understanding.
End of the day you report fraud on your card and its refunded straight away. Unless its something like a stolen card and there is a doubt over PIN access.
Ok you are without a card for a few days. But joint parties is fine.
TBH.
Dont let the fraudsters stop you....
All you are going to do is end up costing yourself money and time. On the off chance it happens again.Never ASSUME anything its makes a>>> A55 of U & ME <<<0 -
I agree with dalesrider a credit card will do the same thing if you are afraid of fraud.
With a credit card it is the bank's money they are using - with a current account or a pre paid card it is your own.0
