I have a htc one x which developed a screen fault back in December. I had only had the phone 8 weeks when this happened. The phone went off on repair for 3 weeks with orange but has come back with the same fault even though they say it had been fixed so now apparently it needs to got for manufacturer repair and diagnosis but this time I don't get a loan phone. After such a short period of time I believed I would get an exchange obviously I was wrong. Should I have had an exchange or a loan phone as I believed the sale of goods act deemed the retailer with responsibility. I work in a jewellers and if we have a faulty product we exchange/refund, is this now outdated?

Personally I think 'loan phones' , as you call them, are only a goodwill gesture from the retailer and not a 'right'.

With electronic goods exchanges used to be an option within the first 28 days and after that they had to be repaired . I don't know the current procedures.

Surely you have an old phone that you could use for a couple of weeks.

Give the manufacturer a chance to repair the phone and then if problems persist return to Orange to sort it for you.

You have to give them a reasonable chance to repair it.

What your company might decide to do doesn't necessarily relate to other retailers.

It never was a legal requirement and always is a company's policy.

Agreed, I didn't say that was the legal requirement, that was just the normal practise at the time.

Sorry for not making myself clearer.
