got the letter form Scottish Power today saying the electric was going up on4 october. they sent me a table that goes like this
elec domestic premier plus two rate (no standing charge) tariff
before 4 oct
first 225kwh used each quarter -12.74p
all other day units - 6.15p
night units-2.51p
after 4 oct
first 225kwh used each quarter -13.40p
all other day units - 6.81p
night units-2.78p
this is excluding VAT and is for the economy 7 i think, as thats what i am on.
i am very annoyed as i swtiched from london energy only 2 months ago and it took ages to sort out, they also sent me with my information a leaflet that said the energy prices were capped till dec 2005 or something like that so that does not seem to apply to me after all.
off to their website to investigate0 -
I will not be surprised if you find that the cap does apply to you, but that the capped rate is higher than you currently pay. Maybe even the new price will not hit the capped rate!
Something like a mortgage where they offer you a rate of 6% and promise not to increase it above 50%!!0 -
all or most suppliers are increasing their prices, some more than others
to be honest there isnt that much difference between suppliers tariff wise - so i would personally stick with your current supplier - as long as you are getting both gas and elec with them
saving money comes from the "dual fuel" discounts - this is what you want to be comparing when considering changing supplier

Unfortunately Sunflower thats not quite true. You can find it cheaper to source gas / elec from different suppliers, it all depends.
The only way to know is to go through a comparison calculator (like USwitch) and find out.
I'm with Powergen (reasonably good provider) but will still check who is the cheapest when the dust settles.

Well the time has now come. Basic Power have informed me of their price increase effective from 10th November and it works out over 20% for Economy 7.
For my area (NorthWest) Virgin Home Energy are about what I pay now so thinking of switching to them to avoid the 20% increase BUT have Virgin Home Energy increased their prices recently?
Appreciate it if anyone could inform me and also if they did increase when and by how much. Not much point switching if they are still to increase.Regards
