Vodaphone re-using card details??

Hi,

I thought I would post todays experience with Vodaphone customer services.

I wanted to pay off and close my account, this was going to cost £350 which is fine. I got put through to cancellations, explained my request, and was asked for my card details. I gave all the relevent numbers only to be told that payment was declined. I knew that there was plently on my card so asked the agent to read back the details to me so I could verify they were correct, he did this and I confirmed he had them right so I asked him to process it again. Again he said it was declined, I politly said no problem I would contact the card provider and call back.

I called my card provider and asked for an explination, I was told that a vodaphone transaction for £1 had been declined due to incorrect date entry. This request was only processed once.

My concern is that my details have been taken and deliberatly declined with the possible intention of them making a transaction of £350 one that I would not question on my statement as I would be expecting it.

Has anyone else experienced this, I cannot think of any other reason that this would be done?

Thanks in advance
Steve.

I don't understand what kind of conspiracy you suspect. Is it just me?

The card payment was declined by your bank. Get onto your bank and find out what the problem was with your card.

All Vodafone would have done would be to process the card in the normal way.

What's the point in wasting time on going to the bank?

Because there could be a block or a restriction on the card which is preventing the card being processed.

Its not a waste of time, if there is a restriction on the card, it has to be done via the bank.

Only if the customer fails a security check over a phone and is asked to go to a branch as a result. Otherwise everything can be done over a phone.

Of course Grumbler, perhaps I should have been more specific and said phone the bank, and not contact the bank.
  • hi any payment over £300 with voda requires additional security check (the £1) it gets taken then immediately refunded. then the payment gets attmepted.

    hth.

Why close the account and waste £350 on an ETC? You might as well use the contract to it's end, or sell it on.
    Not exactly money-saving?
