Yeah i found that one company wanted more money if i wanted to carry a passenger.

Insurance document did specify that i was allowed to carry one.

Pretty sure it's an offence to display an L if you don't need one (unless it's a driving school vehicle). As above, if it's not practical to remove them when you're riding, just cancel them with some black insualtion tape.

Get yourself settled back in on it before you take a passenger, scooters don't exactly handle, so another person can make them a bit tricky.

As above, make sure your insurance covers a pillion, mine doesn't, I left it off because it made the policy cheaper..... that and between 6 foot of me and a carrier, there's not a lot of room left to put anyone anyway :rotfl:
Yes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?

You have the old style paper licence ? Did you pass your car test in 1996 if so you have what they call grandfather rights so are able to ride a 50cc moped with a pillion but you must declare to your insurance company that you will carry a pillion it made no difference to my premium but should some fool deiced to ram me from the rear and injured the pillion i have complete confidence that i have informed my insurance company and that it is on my certificate of insurance.
If you passed your full car test after the 01st feb 2001 you will still have a cat P but must do a cbt test before you are able to ride a 50cc.
If you have not ever passed a car test then you have to take a cbt every two years as far as i am aware someone quote me wrong if i am or pass your full motorbike test this has or will also be changing this month.

Make sure before you take a pillion that you are insured to do so. Check with your insurance company. I have a full moped licence as i passed my car test before 1997 and can carry a pillion provided i add to my insurance.
Thanks for this - I have just checked my documents, and it excludes passengers! I have tried to contact Swintons but they're closed on Sundays so will call tomorrow to add this on. (called them yesterday to add my DS on for the rest of the policy-6 months and it was extra £265:( )

Thanks for the tip - I'd have never thought to check this

I would put those green "P" plates on. They carry no weight in law but people recognise them as meaning the driver has recently passed their test. Certainly I give cars I see with them on more room and benefit of the doubt when they make errors.
