Will I be stopped for having a passenger on Moped?

Hi,
I own a moped registered and insured in my name. When I bought it, I left the L plates on as it has been a long time since I last rode a moped and thought it may help other drivers see my inexperience, also, my DS will be using it in a couple of months when he turns 16.
I know I can legally ride with a passenger, but, will I get stopped by the Police?
Now I feel I am competent myself, I want to take him out to give him a taste of the road and bike, but don't want the hassle and expense of taking the L-plates on/off
Thanks

Odds on you will be stopped.
Why is it hassle and expense to remove the L plates?0 -

Hi,
you can get magnetic ones.0 -
But I'm pretty sure the front of the moped is plastic??[Deleted User] wrote:Hi,

Hi
You can stick black electrical tape in a cross over them. This will cancel them out - I do this on my child's bike when I ride it and I don't get stopped.

We were in a similar situation, made some cardboard "blanks" and fixed the on with sticky backed velcro, easy to remove and store under the seat when not needed.
We had loads of trouble being stopped when carrying a pillion passenger, with or without L plates, the police automatically assume you are a couple of chavs, they used to get a surprise when a 50 year old baldy took his full face helmet off and were usually apologetic and let us carry on.
Different story when it was the 2 lads on it, loads of police stops and often ended with one of them being told to walk home, grrr.
I had to contact the DSA for their leaflet explaining the law relating to mopeds and pillions and take it to the local police station. They photocopied it and the "stops" did stop after that.0 -
Black tape as above is the accepted way and the way l plates are blanked on bike school bikes.0

Make sure before you take a pillion that you are insured to do so. Check with your insurance company. I have a full moped licence as i passed my car test before 1997 and can carry a pillion provided i add to my insurance.0
