Hi everyone,
I am wanting to move from my Virgin National service due to the lack of speed.
I don't download anything but want to use my Xbox360 as well as my Ipad at the same time which I cannot do at the moment.
Unfortunately I cannot get Virgin cable services at my address but can get BT affinity and Sky plus a few others.
Any suggestions on which to use as I have heard that some slow you down if you use online gaming such as the Xbox 360.
Many thanks
Malc

"I don't download anything but want to use my Xbox360 as well as my Ipad at the same time which I cannot do at the moment."
A common misunderstanding. everytime you look at a webpage, or connect your X-Box you are downloading data.
What LLU options do you have, check on Samknows. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -

I think everyone knows just being on the internet, whether through computer, games console, ipad etc, uses bandwidth. I would say when people refer to downloading, they mean music and films etc.0 -
You'd be surprised at the number of, I never download anything but my ISP says I've exceeded my limit, posts, and it is often the case that DS or DD is playing on line games on the X-Box etc. That gum you like is coming back in style.0

Hi Everyone,
My speed is 0.5mbs on a reasonable day and some times slower.
No films or Music are downloaded but as you say every page and every game is classed as a download.
I will have a look at Sam Knows and see whats available.

sync speed or download speed?
if you have phone extensions, try removing the bell wire.

Thats the download speed and the router is plugged into the test socket were the line enters the house and using the ethernet connection from the router to my PC.0

if you have extensions, with a bell wire attached to the master socket, it can affect your sync speed even though it's attached to the master socket.
the sync speed can be found by logging into the router, and may be improved by turning the router on and off
if it's a netgear, sync speed can be found here
http://192.168.0.1/setup.cgi?next_file=start.htm
and download speed here
http://www.speedtest.bbmax.co.uk/
if you are a long way from the exchange or there is poor wiring, then any adsl provider may give you a similar speed, unless you move to a fibre based system, eg bt infinity
how much are you paying for broadband?!!

The router is plugged direct into the test socket with no extensions attached. The distance as you say is the problem and other ISPs will still have the distance issue. BT Affinity is looking good for a few pounds extra.

Apologies but its BT Infinity.
Care to post your router line statistics. That gum you like is coming back in style.0
