........Why are you volunteering information that isn't being asked for?......

never a good idea, it just confuses call centre operators and the knee jerk result is generally to your disadvantage (£££)

It's a while ago I took out a 10 month policy so things may have changed but when I did it, only the issuing company (Elephant) would recognise it as a one year no claims. I took the insurance with someone else with no no-claims which worked out cheaper than the Elephant quote anyway. I didn't make that mistake again.

My daughter had Admiral 10 month policies 3 times and had no problem with any companies accepting 3 years NCD, as that is what the proof of bonus said.

I was with Admiral for 3 or 4 years, then Aviva. Aviva had no issues with the Admiral NCB (which was from 10 month policies). I'm now with quotemehappy (part of Aviva) and again no issues with NBC.

At the end of the day you will get a renewal letter from Admiral showing a full years NCD I assume, even though it's only a 10mth policy. This is all the insurance cos are interested in, the amount of NCD that you have evidence for.

It is not a case of just sending the renewal letter to your new insurer and letting them be deceived by the inaccuracy in Admiral's letter. You have to tell your new insurer what NCB you have,

If you tell the insurance company that you have 10 months NCB, but that your current insurer treats it as one year, and they accept that, then fine. If you just tick a box on an online form saying you have 1 year when you don't...

I have 3 years no claims using these 10 month policies and it hasn't ever effected me.

The paperwork says I have 3 full years of no claims and I declare that on future policies. As far as I'm concerned, I'm complying and answering completely honestly.

If there was ever a problem then I'd fight it because I have it in black and white saying 3 years, not 2 and a half years.

The piece of paper says 1 year NCB with no mention of 10 months. The new insurers are highly unlikely to ask whether it was earned in 10 months rather than 12, so why on earth would any disclosure need to be made to that effect?

  • I have used the 10 month policy with Admiral on 2 occasions since passing my test in Jan 2010.

You should get a letter confirming a full year no-claims bonus at the end of 10 months, which *will* be accepted by other insurers.

    But be warned.

Its probably best not to let on you had a 10 month policy (and you are under NO obligation to do so).

I started driving 2 months after I passed my test and I moved to Aviva after 10 months with Admiral using the proof of no claims (which gave no indication of a 10 month policy)

The problem you will have is that you may end up having held a full license for less time than your no claims bonus. You WILL struggle with comparison websites if you encounter this (almost impossible) situation.

Typically, you can't quote for a policy with a 2-year license and 3-years of no claims.

That pretty much much restricts to me the EUI/Admiral group at the moment - but i'm not complaining because they are the cheapest this year.

I used to work for Admiral and I never had an issue with moving NCD built up using the 10 month policy to other Insurers.

Admiral issue confirmation saying '1 years No Claims Bonus' etc.

I didn't have any problems, 10 months after passing my test I had 2 years no-claims, and no-one ever questioned it, the comparison websites had no problem accepting it, and things were fine.

I had one 10 month policy, and a years no claims from when I insured my car whilst taking lessons, etc.
