Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Friday 4th January January 2013 - . This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.
Morning all
Hugs to Molly, Unclebryn & Jools.
Can't stop sneezing, so I got up to save disturbing hubby.
I treated myself to a box of balsam tissues yesterday, my nose is so sore I couldn't carry on using kitchen roll any longer.
Both my DD's visited yesterday with the DGC, we went to look at the floodwater, it is receding, the buses have been reinstated but part of the park is still under water.
Back to work on Monday and a 5:30 start so I need to make sure everything is organised to make it as easy as possible.
I did my monthly shop yesterday, ouch I'd run out of all the expensive items & spent about £60, I need to make it last as long as possible.
Today's plans include vacuuming through upstairs & defrosting one of my freezers, I think it need a new door seal, so I might try & source that today too.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

Hi Hester and all that follow

Hope your all okay, hugs to Jooles, thinking of you, ditto Unclebyrn x

OH has given me his manflu, so we have spent a fun night taking it in turns to see who can cough and splutter the loudest, so as he won, I have come into the lounge to practise more....:p Hate being ill, but at least its the weekend, should be at least half human before getting back to work monday.

OS wise WM on, will hang that on the dryer when done, no shopping planned, but may need to grab some crisps or snacks for DS lunches next week.Other than that, I will see how it goes.

Have a fab weekend all xx

    Morning everyone

Jools and unclebryn - thinking of you all x

Hugs to those that need/want them that are having a hard/sad time at the moment x

Still dark but looking to be dry here this morning. DH up and gone off to his meeting - he made me a cuppa before he left, so am enjoying the peace and quiet whilst on here.

Boys still fast asleep in their pits, will let them make the most of the last couple of days of the holidays, and we don't have any major plans so today and tomorrow will be very chilled.

Dinner last night was a very naughty takeaway - which I have to say was one of the nicest we've ever had, so the chicken in breadcrumbs etc that I had planned for last night will be tonights dinner.

Yesterday did my chores in town and went food shopping, went to MrA**i, and it was completely rammed can't believe how busy it was, it was as busy as it was prior to Xmas, people really seem to be either being very careful with their money or having to watch the pennies out of necessity - the later I think. Did some of my shop in MrA**i but the shelves were not well stocked and some things I couldn't get so called in at MrT on the way home, that was busier than I expected too, but think after this weekend things will go very quiet for the retailers. I spent more than I wanted too, but less than I usually do so that wasn't too bad. Did manage to be reasonably productive yesterday and did actually find the bottom of the dirty wash basket, but no doubt over the weekend it will miraclously fill up again. I also got most of the ironing done, but still have some which I will tackle today (these items weren't dry enough to iron). Really need to do some baking ready for when everything is back to normal on Mon/Tues and the need for pack-ups etc is resumed, so may well do that this morning.

Bought a new handbag in the sales yesterday, the zip broke on mine whilst we were away, and this made it unusable, but it's my birthday this week so can justify the expense that way! Think I may have to buy a new purse though as the current one is too big and makes the bag crammed, the new handbag isn't particularly small but have been having some back and shoulder aches and pains and it's only when we've been out and about alot and I've been carrying my handbag over my shoulder for long periods of time, so will use any birthday money to put towards a new purse, also will be taking a shirt back that I bought DS1 for Xmas, it doesn't fit and he doesn't like it either, so hoping for a credit note that I can use anywhere is store, was a department store so could in theory use that against purchase of new purse! Think I will do this on Monday and take the boys - may treat them to a breakfast out as a end of holidays and my birthday treat.

Have a great day everyone, stay safe and well x

Morning Hester, Islandmaid, nmlc and all who follow,

Jools and Unclebryn Hugs for you.

Molly and LW Hope you are feeling more positive today.

Having a lovely quiet day today, the only thing that I have planned is a trip to the farmshop with OH to stock the freezer with meat. It is a great farmshop, about the same as supermarket prices but much better quality and staffed by four trained butchers who are really happy to give you advice.

Just woken DS for work and OH has gone out on a bike ride, for some reason it is really dark this morning, can't wait for the sun to come up.

Really missing DD2, she is having a wonderful time in Lanzarote, her friend's family are spoiling her rotten and I am sure that she is not missing us at all but I will be happy when she is home tomorrow.

My friend's DD was released from hospital yesterday, she is still very weak but on the mend.

    Have a lovely day everyone.:)
  • Good morning everyone :)

Back to work on Monday so have tons to do this weekend but DH and I both seem to have woken up with awful colds and sore throats ... just what we don't need :(

I'm off to make a honey and hot lemon and back to bed for a read and a new start in one hour.

Well wishes for sick people and pets and hugs for those who need or just want them. Keep warm and safe and have a super day :)

    (Jools). Thinking of you x

Bloody dog next door barked half the night , don't know what we can do about it , the dogs are housed outside in a shed right at the side of our house and the owners are rude and aggressive and so no-one dare tackle them about it

Need to wash and iron today , dd2 is going to work later and then the rest of us are going to a party for MILs birthday she's 88

Have a good day everyone xx

I've not been posting as regularly as been away.
Spent yesterday doing an airport pick up for OH's daughter at stupid o'clock, brought her and her friends back here to recover from long haul flight. then went to visit my son. We spent a long time washing our cars together with his carers. It was great fun and I was really pleased to see how he stayed focused on the task. We all got soaked but it didn't matter as we had such fun. Seeing him again today for swimming session at lunch time.
Very short of money after Christmas and trip to visit my family, am going to have to reduce petrol spend I feel, it's going to be difficult as both son and OH are an hour's drive away. Will start walking for short trips instead of driving. I've said this before but this time I mean it!
Also going to make my own bread (hopefully practice will make perfect!) rather then supermarket bought.
My son has pulled the curtain poles out of the wall where he lives and the housing assoication is suggesting velcro tabbed curtains so that if he pulls on them they will give way rather than the pole. They quoted £126 plus VAT!!!! So i think my trusty sewing machine will be coming out and I'll make them......get a pair of curtains from charity shop and add contrasting tabs with velcro myself. Simples!
All the very best wishes and huge hugs to those with problems, there seems to have been some horrible stuff going on for some posters over what should be the festive period and my heart goes out to you all. Let's hope 2013 is better.

    Morning :hello:

Jools I'm glad yesterday went well xxx

Quite pleased with myself – a while ago I made two small pairs of curtains out of one huge pair, I've just used most of the leftovers to make a bag for my crochet supplies. I've made another notebook to copy down crochet patterns :D Calendar is printed and hanging in the kitchen.

I've got another cold. It's been trying to get me for a few days :D I thought I'd scared it off but I woke up this morning with a raw throat, cotton wool head, and I'm feeling really drained. I have a few things to sort through, I'm going to take it all into the lounge so I can do it from the comfort of my sofa :D

We went shopping yesterday and bought loads of veg. Mr tru chopped, sliced and diced everything in sight (and made a huge mess, lol). Mixed it all together then froze it. Quick and easy stir-fry, he's filled a drawer in the freezer :D Hope we don't get fed up with it, lol.

    Morning all,

Damp and misty here today, hope it will brighten up later on, I have three loads of washing to do, would be great to hang it on the line.

Need to drop dd at work this morning, then home for a tidy round, and go and see my dad, this afternoon I would like to get out for a walk with OH.

Sistercas, I would phone the council noise people, you should not have to give your name, or the rspca, poor dogs :(

Jools, hope you managed to get some sleep.

    Have good days all xx
  • Morning all
I need to be organised today, so why am I sat here in jamas?? Need to leave for airport at 11, and DS hasn't yet packed and is still in bed. Onwards and upwards.
    Jools xx
    Enjoy your weekend all.

  • Morning all

Jools - glad Iain had a nice send off, look after yourself now x
((((hugs))))) to all the poorlies x

Well I'm feeling more human today, nose much less swollen. I didn't get to sleep until the early hours, wasn't tired due to napping in day, but don't feel tired this morning. The worse part is not being allowed to blow my nose, I've spent the last few years pretty much permanently blowing my nose so it's so hard to not do it now! :rotfl:.

Today I need to put my 2 lovely bunches of flowers in vases as I was too shattered to do it yesterday. Then move some things back in lounge that I moved for Sky man. Then nap! Then my friend is coming over to look after me and do some DIY jobs in the house for me :) and we are going to just watch films and get takeaway tonight. I may attempt driving today too, only a short trip to shop or something.

Not much OS other than quick tidy and something from freezer for lunch.

    Have a good day all
