Where to get LPG for central heating

We just moved into a new (rented) house, which has LPG central heating. What I am wondering is who to contact to obtain the LPG.

The tank out the back has a British Gas sticker on it, but there must be other suppliers. Does anyone know of other companies I can contact for prices?

We spoke to the landlord, who said he isn't sure where to get the LPG as the previous tennants had been in the place for 3 years and would have dealt with that themselves. He bought it as a BTL and has never dealt with the LPG system aside from getting the safety certs each year.

From reading a couple of the other threads, I gather the suppliers can tie you into supply contracts, but as far as either we or the landlord are aware there is no such contract on this house.

Also, if you can it may be worth waiting for the final decision from the CC regarding LPG. Beware rip off Calor!

If your tank has a BG markings, it belongs to Flogas who bought British Gas LPG about 4 years ago. Unfortunately, Flogas are probably the worst supplier to deal with. They have just announced another price increase of around 9p per litre ! If you provide me your postcode I can recommend some alternatives. This wil involve the new supplier replacing the tank but this is painless and often beneficial - newer, cleaner tank.

If you would prefer not to change tanks, as the previous post mentioned, the Competition Commission are about to issue its orders following an investigation into the supply of bulk LPG to the UK domestic market. This will include a mechanism whereby the incoming supplier can purchase the incumbent suppliers tank at a defined price. This should be announced in June.
  • Try extra gas at Manchester,if they are local.I have just switched from Shell and gone from 39.5p/l to 29.5p.
Its all a big con by main suppliers, they have got you over a barrel(tank)
