I have to admit that I'm a bit surprised by this - when my animals have had metacam they've always had a loading (double) dose to start with for 3 days...the leaflet in the box also confirms this. (yes, I'm sad, I always read these from cover to cover!)

Can you confirm that you were giving 10ml rather than the 10kg marker on the enclosed syringe? As that would be a mahoosive dose for a JRT - IIRC the recommended dosage is .01 ml per kg per day as a maintenance dose.

ETA just noticed that Charlie had the injection at the vets - that counts as the 'loading' dose, again IIRC.

Yes it's the "10 kg" which is marked on the seringe, not 10ml, although on the label it says "10ML x 1.0" (??)

was told today that because he had an injection on the day he got attacked we should not have given him metacam that day

I think this business of keeping Charlie over until Monday is the drug company covering their !!!!!!... only not at their expense. I suggested this was the case to the vet last night and she certainly didn't deny that was the case and rather implied I was right (wink, wink)

(we had to use a crowbar to unlock the staffy's jaws, Charlie was severly hurt, deep cuts and bruises)

    well done on showin restraint.

If any dog attacked my dog, and had locked on like that, the crowbar wouldve done more that unlock the jaw.... i doubt that dog wouldve survived......
Promo codes are never always cheaper..... isnt that right EuropCar?

fortunately it was some guy who turned up in a van with the crowbar otherwise I would have lost control. I had to concentrate on keeping hold of Charlie during the whole ordeal because I let go once and the staff tried to rag him like Charlie would a mouse and tried moving his grip towards his jugular - I was looking round for bricks anything, neighbours were throwing buckets of water over them, that didn't work so they hit the staff with the bucket...

like I said the crowbar man came to the rescue (thanks whoever you were)

I am assuming you were dispensed a 10ml bottle of Metacam (they come in various sizes), so the '10ML x 1.0' on the label probably means you were dispensed one 10ml bottle.

This is NOT the dose - the dose should be written elsewhere on the label - eg "Give a 10kg dose once daily for 5 days," or whatever. Please note that <-- is an example, don't be giving your dog that based on what I wrote!

As mentioned above, you can give one double dose on the first day - a 'loading dose' - and then the single dose thereafter. This does not apply if the dog has been given an injection of Metacam at the start of the course as this is the loading dose. The injection lasts 24 hours, hence you start giving the liquid a day later.

I hope everything works out with Charlie.

For anyone else reading this, please don't think you can't ring your vet back if you have a problem with the medication or something is not clear. If you are in any doubt, it is best not to give the medication until you have clarified with your vet.
