However, Labour will seize on the fact that, as the ONS said in its statement, GDP "has been broadly flat over the last 18 months". Output from the economy remains 2.6% below its pre-crisis peak in 2008.
Tony Dolphin, chief economist at the Institute for Public Policy Research, said the economy was "stuck in a rut".
"Normally, we would expect the economy to grow by around 12% over any five-year period. The fact that it has contracted by 2.6% instead means almost 15% of potential output has been lost, along with the employment opportunities and tax revenues that would have accompanied it," he added.

Well spotted that I enjoy winding up DLW!
I honestly think this is a pretty creditable result given the fact that most of the UK's customers remain au rivière de merde. I am pretty hopeful that this is a genuine recovery that will gather pace and I'd be saying exactly the same thing if Labour were in power.
The human cost of this recession has been enormous and the sooner it can be put behind us the better. I find it quite sad that a lot of Labour supporters seem to want things to get worse to further thei election chances.0 -

Second time in two days I have learned something new - I prefer German, at least I get a chance to guess:D
You are right that the cost of lost opportunities mount and that we need to get moving. At least it is flat lining it could be worse.;)"If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....

Well you could barely have got that more wrong.
Up 0.3% was very creditable considering the weather. If a lack of growth was all the Tories' fault, does this great result mean the Tories are doing well?
I predict that DLW's response will mention canny voters not being fooled by these figures; canny voters no longer believe the fascist BBC, they are following Ed Balls on twitter and so they know what is really going on.0
