Does having points on your licence put your insurance up?

Hello, I have received a speeding notification (46mph in a 40mph area, it's my first offence) and it looks like I may have the option of going on a speed awareness rather than take the points.
I've had conflicting info from friends, and I did a quick search but couldn't find it on here (I'm sure this has been asked before so sorry for repeating).
Would having 3 points on my licence put up my insurance premiums? I.e. is it better to shell out the extra £20 now and do the course, thus saving money in the long run?
Thank you

take the course... but remember you wont get offered it again for the next 2 years iirc
but 3 points for mobile phone made no difference to my insurance for the 5 years.Sealed pot challenger # 10

Definitely take the course as the £20 extra will be recouped on your future insurance premiums and you'll save yourself 3 points! I did one last year and I can still say I've got a clean licence. Best 20 quid I've spent in ages.0

I would be inclined to take the course. 3 points on your licence may not make a difference to your insurance but you could end up with more points in future if you're not careful. 6 points will probably make a difference to your insurance and 9 definitely will. 12 would obviously see you banned.
I have made the mistake of getting points on my licence in the past and am hoping to avoid it in the future!3 stone down, 3 more to go0 -
The simple way to look at this is go to a price comparison site input all details and see what difference 3 points make. You will probably find it makes a difference far in excess of the differences in the money you pay.
Remember though you will get increased premium costs for however long it's on your licence, so 3 years. When posting a parking issue on MSE do not reveal any information that may enable PPCs to identify you. They DO monitor the forum.

most now ask for 5 years so taking the course covers you, at least for a little bit from potentially having 6 points to declare if you get done again in that time period. What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0 -

My last renewal to privilege was for 3 years for accidents and for penalties I think. Though a lot do say 5 yearsWhen posting a parking issue on MSE do not reveal any information that may enable PPCs to identify you. They DO monitor the forum.

Priviliege is 3 years for claims and 5 for convictions/penalties. All the comparison ones are the same.
Given it is a first offence, the OP is hardly a serial offender but an unfamiliar road and some bad luck could easily see the six pointer and that will make a difference to premiums.
OP should take the speed awareness course. What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0 -
Read in a thread a few months ago that Admiral Group (and others are so to do it was rumoured) ask about attending speed awareness courses on their proposal form...Ethical moneysaver0
