Heating Oil Newbie - New Tank

Hi,
I recently moved into a property that uses heating oil (kerosene). I have been looking at replacing the current plastic tank with a steel one due to security issues. I have been looking at the Fuel Proof bunded steel tanks however I note that whilst they comply with PPG2 they do not comply with OFT T200 standard. Is this likely to cause any problems? Is it considered a mandatory requirement?
Regards,
Lee

I'm afraid this isn't an answer to your question but another question about your rationale for replacing the tank.
I have a plastic oil tank and there have been some fuel thefts recently in the area so am concerned about security. But at the end of the day I'm not sure there is an ideal solution because by their very nature there are so many access points to any tank - eg. the fill point, the supply outlet or just perforating the tank.
I imagine that a steel tank wouldn't be that difficult for determined folks to perforate if they choose not to use one of the existing inlets/outlets? I suspect a steel tank, however could be repaired in a way that a plastic tank could not.0 -
Oil thieves are not like most burglars - opportunistic.
Keeping doors/windows locked and having a burgalr alarm etc will deter most opportunistic burglars.
Having a steel, as opposed to plastic, tank, will have no effect on deterring an oil thief who has followed the delivery truck to your home and decided to syphon off your nice newly delivered oil. He'll just get his drill out.
You'd do better to install CCTV & lights (though most theft happens during the day while everyone is out.)0
