he seemed annoyed if I didn't go for a Howdens kitchen, because he said with Howdens he has a relationship whereby if things are not quite right he can return them quite easily. Hmm.

I fit a lot of Howdens kitchens. I use them for exactly the same reason. If a carcass or door or whatever is damaged, I can get it exchanged the same day without question. This doesn't eat into the fit time or hold things up. I can then get on with the job and get it finished and the customer can gave their kitchen back ASAP.

If you source from B&Q expect up to 6 weeks to get replacement parts. With Wren, don't expect to get them ever.

Agree that from the trade's point of view, stock and ability to exchange quickly are helpful.

However, it is used as a get out for pi$$ poor kitchen designing and planning, which is certainly the case from my local branch. I barely ever come across a plan of theirs which actually fits, sometimes even on their own plans it is blindingly obvious that it wont work. Units over doorways and windows, gas hobs next to tower units:eek:. etc. etc.

And may I just echo the general....hmmmm... here:rotfl:

I agree with the planning aspect. My local branch have good designers. Not all branches are so lucky. It's not fair to tarnish all branches with the same brush. The fitter also has a part to play in knowing whether a design will work.

Not trying to Phil, aware that there are some good ones out there too.

It's just that the bad ones get away with being very lazy and/or with promising potential customers the impossible because they know that in the event of it not working, it's not too much of a problem. Leaving the fitter & customer to sort the mess out in the knowledge that they can swap units.
