Stamp prices will be going up again. (Possibly up to a £1 for a 1st class) and they are bringing back the Price marked stamp, rather than 1st class to stop people "panic buying" like last year which screwed Royal Mail over and cost them a lot of money.

That's ridiculous. But not unbelieveable, sadly. Really hope it doesn't happen. :(

  • If these changes come in to effect and the stamp prices rise and stamp price is marked on the stamp, can I still use my 2nd class stamps I already have?? Bought 200 stamps that I haven't used yet as only sell 10/15 items a month on eBay

Unless another courier comes up that handles smaller items of post I can't see we have much choice. I am certainly not going to run around crying that the sky is falling in and give up my business until I see what happens and what my actual costs will be.

Surely it has been going on for years now, or does it just seem that way?

Compensation to go up to £50 from £46 but only if it has been sent signed for.
Anything else will only have a max compensation of £20.
I've always felt £46 is very generous. Judging by the lies some people will tell for the sake of a few quid, £46 is something of a magnet for a scammer. £20 is a more realistic price level for lost items on the basis of a Certificate of Postage.

Isn't this going to make everything more labour intensive though? There will be an increase in signed for items, which means bigger post office counter queues and at the other end, lots of posties having to knock on doors to get signatures, rather than previously pushing items through the letter box.

Also will be fewer pricing categories, so as previous 1st and 2nd class changes knocked out weights of 250g and 500g and now only have 0 - 750g, there will be more changes like that.
Currently, wherever possible, I wrap items to fit within large letter (long and thin, so to speak) to make items more affordable. If all post wider than 5mm is immediately is charged as 750g, there are lots of items that will become substantially cheaper to buy in the High Street than on eBay. [For example a DVD or CD in a regular case].

No one will know until RM announce what is being done- please note at the moment this is a 'consultation', so any advice given my random people on an internet forum may well not be correct once RM makes changes

The wheels have been in motion
I have posted many times that running RM down was the best way for it to be 'saved' by private money
