I received £20 in the post. This was very nice.
However, it was addressed to someone else, had my address correct down to the full postcode, and has no return address or has just the sender's first name.
I've lived here for 15 years, it's not anyone known at this address from the past. I've asked the postman, and various neighbours, some of whom who have lived here for 50+ years. No one knows the recipient.

I got a parcel addressed to me, correct name and address with no senders name and no card included. Have no idea who sent it! All family is accounted for and it was quite an expensive gift for a friend to send.0

I don't suppose there's anyone in the phone book of that name nearby?
Happy moneysaving all.0 -
Londonsurrey - the first thing that sprang to mind for me was some kind of identity theft. I might be jumping to conclusions, but if you had had it every year, I could understand (I receive a Xmas card for someone who lived in this house two moves ago) but that it has suddenly started happening....better safe than sorry?0

Over Xmas I found out that one of my sons had mislaid his brother's address. Instead of contacting any family member to ask for it, he went on to Google Earth (he knew the road) looked at his brother's house, and took the number off the door. However, he misread the number because some random bit of dirt or something made it look different.
So the birthday card went to the wrong number, and because of the layout, they are not near neighbours, so it wasn't surprising that they didn't recognise the name!
It seemed a completely mad way to go about getting a house number (confirming that I am of another generation!) and I share this, wondering if someone else has done the same. It is also rather daft to send money or a parcel without putting a return address on.
To OP & Nicky - I would consider putting a notice in the local parish magazine or community newsletter, saying something like "nice gift (keep it vague!) postmarked xxxx - anyone know anything?" but otherwise you haver done all you can.0 -
We get a Christmas card every year with our address and postcode on, no retuen address, the neighbours who've lived here 28 years haven't a clue who the people named on it are!
Just the way it goes sometimes.Mum of several with a twisted sense of humour and a laundry obsession:o

A bunch of flowers turned up at the door today, my address but some random name on it, no one who's ever lived here. I sent the very confused delivery girl away - a shame because they looked like nice flowers!0

I live in Central London Jacky, so each church does their own newsletter but just to people who attend that church, and there is no community newsletter. Plus it was a large parcel so anyone who lived locally would more likely just have given it to me not posted it. But I will put something along those lines on my facebook page for friends who live further away. Good idea!0 -
Likewise, My mum sent all my birthday cards to me in one envelope, they never arrived, the only reason I knew this was because she told me she'd sent them. Maybe someone else randomly got them!!current debt as at 10/01/11- £12500

What about a residents association. These tend to have a few very older stalwarts of the community in, especially in the central ' more exclusive' London areas.0 -

No idea. I know that I personally don't receive any newsletters like this through my door though so they aren't widescale circulation certainly.
Added to which, I won't have been sent it by a complete stranger, so a widespread appeal to everyone who lives close by is unlikely to be effective. I just need to keep bringing it up in conversation with friends I think until I find the friend who was so kind.0
